To make things clear, this hotel is a magnificent property situated in a breathtaking area close to Ivrea and Biella in northern Italy. We spent 2 nights, since we needed accommodation for a music concert in Sordevolo by the great Ennio Morricone. Arriving at the hotel is in itself experience. Perched high up in the site of an old castle, remnants of which are still clearly visible. The decor is very beautiful overall, and the surrounding gardens as well as the view from the pool are amazing. The staff in general (especially the kitchen staff) were extremely knowledgeable and helpful, and so was the receptionist. However, apart from this, I cannot not comment about these things in view of others deciding to use this place. (1) The room we had had no air-conditioning. Even though the booking clearly stated climate-control, I was taken aback when I realized that there was only a vertical fan in the room. Unfortunately it was hot, and it did effect my sleep. The receptionist did offer us another room, but she informed us that it was of an inferior quality. (2) The Wi-Fi did not reach anywhere in the rooms or in the garden except for the reception area. Again, this was misleading, as in the booking it was clearly stated that there was free wi-fi in all rooms. (3) There was no safe in the room. Again, this was stated in the booking as being there. (4) No printed information was available in the rooms. Not even a pen and pencil, no room directory, no hotel brochure/leaflet. I find this very lacking, especially for a property of this type. (5) Worst of all, the pool area. In these types of places (and others of a supposedly inferior quality), one expects to find a pool area which is private and which does not lack any service. In the 2 days we stayed there we experienced dirty sunbeds, a group of workers who were doing hotel-related manual work and who were noisy, playing loud music, and most of all overlooking the guests. The maintenance guy was still setting up the wooden structures for the shaded areas, and apart from the noise of the drilling the smell of the paint to the wood he was using was almost untolerable. The water shower by the pool was dismantled. It is crazy to think that the outdoor garden maintenance is actually done in the summer months - especially with guests present and trying to relax. (Conclusion) I will consider visiting this hotel again, only if I make sure that these issues have been resolved. What a pity!
