“The Greatest Sicilian Night”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 1, 2012

It was difficult to find at first, but just because we were blind and didn't see the posters all across the town directing to Santa Margherita on top of the hill which overlooks the Aeolian Islands and Gulf of Patti - a view worth a million dollars!
The night itself was a blast - it was the Sicilian Night Theme and we were amazed on how tasty the food and funny the entertainers-singers were. Enjoyed it a lot - the best night out of our 10-day Sicilian trip.
Would recommend it to anyone who is up for an outstanding Sicilian experience, delicious food and warm staff. Keep on going!

The food was simply delicious and highly abundant. The prices are very reasonable. The restaurant has a arm and welcoming environment and employees are very helpful. A very good first experience of Agriturismo.

We've stayed there twice, once in 2008 and once just now in May 2012. Good points:
The view is stunning
The setting is very peaceful, fresh mountain/sea air etc..
Nice set up for kids: farm animals to see, swings/slides, swimming pool, gardens etc.
The food is really very very good - although we had booked bed and breakfast, we ended up eating every meal in our weekend stay there. Wine and home made licquers included.
Very friendly and helpful (and reasonable) personnel.

And the negatives?
The rooms are 'rustic' - our room had a rough stone wall. Some people will find that charming (as we did), others might wish they were in a Best Western instead(!). There was a slight smell of damp - but I think this comes with the thick old fashioned walls, we didn't see any mould in the room.
Our room was missing a couple of things that would make a summer stay more comfortable: mosquito nets on the windows and aircon. However, I must say that the stone walls probably keep out most of the heat unless it's August. And we didn't get bitten by mosquitos (although we were generous with the mosquito repellent).
And the location: You will need a car and GPS. It's about 10-15 mins drive from the highway, and you will spend 5-10 of those minutes going up winding mountain roads to get there. There is some signposting and there are at least two ways to get up there - one harder on the clutch and gears than the other. Still, most of the guests had underpowered fiat Pandas and managed to get up there ok!

Room Tip: The most recently renovated rooms are in the main complex above the dining room. We were told that...

April 2012: Very kind welcome by the owner Fabio and his cook. As a gift they served us fresh orange juice and delicious antipasti. Then Fabio, who speaks better English than I do, accompanied us to our apartment, a beautiful renovated house built of natural stone with a breathtaking view at the Aeolian islands. All apartments/rooms have got a large terrace or balcony with this marvelous view at sea! The rooms are lovely decorated, comfortable beds, very clean, cool because of the thick walls (airco as well) and our apartment even had a kitchen corner. The property is family-owned and it exists of 10 ha, on which olives and oranges used to be cultivated. The restaurant is positioned in a beautiful old renovated building with a lovely terrace with again this wonderful view at sea. In this restaurant you will find authentic elements like the olives presses. You will find two nice swimming pools, tennis courts and a small playground for the little ones. All free available for the guests. The way up to the property is winding but good. At night as well as by day it is quiet. The extensive breakfast is served with lovely fresh products. Service is kind and very pleasantly. Large parking possibilities. Dinner can be chosen simple or very extensive (price €15, €18 or €25,- incl. drinks). The antipasti is very extensive and all very delicious! For a familyroom of 4 persons, breakfast included we only paid €65,-
From Santa Margherita (in Gioiosa Marea) you can easily make very nice trips, like for example the picturesque Cefalu, ravine of Alcantara, the beautiful church Prima Donna Nero in Tindari and ofcourse at 1 ½ hour to go the Etna. And finally we visited Savoca, known from the film the Godfather.
It may be clear, that we recommend this address warmly!

We had a great time. The views are beautiful. Fabio took good care of us. Out dinner was really good. Enjoyed the wine tasting before dinner. We were the first to stay in a new cabin down by the pool. Needed a few things added (hairdryer, garbage can, heater.) They took good care of us though. Hard to find, GPS took us up a really difficult road.

Room Tip: WE stayed in the new cabin by the pool.

Once we had found this hotel (and it is miles from anywhere and poory signposted) we were stunned by the incredible view.We were welcomed expansively aand given a bottle of wine on our first night. The rooms w ere quirky-exactly the oppositie of corporate multi national hotels where every room is identical. After day1 the cracks appeared. Food became repetitious. The cook was over worked and the kitchen was under staffed. She seemed to be constrained to offer the same food variously disguised every night. In the end- evening no 4 it was inedible. A shower leaked badly, the hot water ran out, breakfast failed to materialise! All dealt with and with some good humour. We did go in mid March and I realise this is not the 'season' but the weather was fabulous and we were able to sit out until the sun went down and be stunned by both sunrise and sunset.

Room Tip: Make sure you ask for a room with a balcony overlooking the sea.
