The newest kid on the block is Ciao Bella in Assagao. An Eurochic Italian restaurant with very reasonable prices opened two months ago. Opening in the monsoon appears to be a good move as it is busy almost every evening.

The place looks new, clean and modern without being sterile. On the contrary there is a warm atmosphere and the clever creation of different ambiances within one setting allows for a business meeting as well as a diner with the kids. There is ample parking opportunity just in front of the restaurant.

On offer are delicious home made pastas and home made bread. They make a beautiful sage & butter ravioli, a great black tagliatelle with salmon, delicious seafood pasta and a very interesting chocolate pasta with Gorgonzola. They use an excellent mozzarella for the Caprese salad, have freshly marinated sardines and an tasty starter typically from Rome. The panna cotta is pretty good and so is the creme brulee.

Every now and then, Simona the cook of the restaurant, makes a special and if you are so lucky that is on the day of your visit, you should definitely go for it as these specials have been always fantastic on the occasions I had them.

The wines are very reasonably priced. A free amuse at the start of the meal and a free digestive at the end of a meal are part of the package. How they can do it all for these prices is beyond me!

At the moment they are closed on Mondays but this may change during the tourist season. Apparently they have started lunches on Saturdays and Sundays but I have not tried these.

Loving attention has been brought to the creation of this great little restaurant in Badem. Although the menu is not huge, it is perfectly formed; the food is fresh and beautifully presented and there are always innovative 'specials' to tempt you away from the A La Carte. Specials such as Chocolate Ravioli with Gorgonzola Cheese - an exciting marriage of bitter chocolate in the pasta with a stuffing of wonderful creamy blue cheese - a novel combination which works fabulously! As for the desserts - I find it difficult to move away from the Panna Cotta which is one of the best I have tasted and is served with a coulis of mango or chocolate or even both! Mario and Simona and their staff provide guests with attentive and personal service. I've been back. Several times!

Firstly I think it is wonderful that a new venture begins with the rains - Ciao Bella obviously has confidence in their product and rightly so. We enjoyed a wonderful meal last week - agree portions could be a little bigger, lights definitely a little dimmer but if they can keep the food quality consistent they will be onto a winner and giving the competition, during the season, a run for their money. My advice is - check it out asap the pasta was cooked to perfection and the sardine starter refreshingly different. The service friendly, and very accommodating - we had a 'special diet' requirement which was fulfilled without any fuss and more importantly was very tasty indeed despite the restrictions!

Chef Mario is doing a good job of his little place in Assagao.

The choice of food is fairly good with a good fish fare. The portions however could be heartier but the food itself is very tasty. The wine list is very limited.

The restaurant and kitchen are built in a largish house. There is parking on the road.
