“Good Riding in Sindlingen”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

This an old mansion run by a lovely Family.

The owner Fritz Pape is an ex Olympic rider and still shares his enthusiasm,by educating his fellow students and hotel guests , actively.

The hotel has several indoor and outdoor riding facilities as well as some cross country training fields.

The kitchen serves under the supervision of his daughter and food is delicious.

The are is nested in the vicinity of teh Black Forest and offers beautiful trail riding opportunities

Furnitures in the rooms are a bit old style, but altogether the atmosphere in the hotel and attitude of Pape family makes it cosy

My room was characterful and colourful, and consisted of 2 bedrooms with a living area. It was basically furnished, no TV, with a combination of very old furniture and newer items. I loved that the character of the very old building was expressed in the rooms. It was, however, very noisy, due to the old creaky wooden floors, and being near the stairs. Also, the neighbour's pigfarm contrubuted unpleasant smells. On the plus side, I could look down on the stables blocks which were situated in the old moat.
I loved the warmth of the family atmosphere, and the staff. Dogs and children felt at home there. the food was well-planned, prepared and cooked. I was there for an intensive riding course, and I found that there was the perfect balance of riding and relaxing. There are good opportunities for cyclists (with own bike) and riders (own horse) to explore lovely countryside. The riding school horses were perhaps a bit jaded, but they are all rather well-trained. I was fotunate with the excellent horse that i got to ride. she was trained to a high level, and i was able to progress substantially, under the guidance of the excellent riding instructors. Since i bought a package, I had individual lessons and small group lessons. This hotel also offers the flexibility to stay and ride for a few days, joining the daily group lessons and outrides. The facilities are extensive, with indoor and outdoor schools, a cross country course, and almost daily jumping lessons. Stables are not always in the best condition, being old or fairly temporary, but horses are well-looked after. i really recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to work on their riding, or just enjoy riding for a few days, with good company (guests are encouraged to sit and eat together, and i met some great people), and a very authentic atmosphere. for non-riders, it may be too horsey! It's excellent if you are on your own, or with friends.

Room Tip: ask to be away from the main staricase
