We had a fantastic stay at PoyaLisa! We chose bungalow number 9 which is brand new and has fantastic sunset views, however all of the bungalows are lovely. The food was great - and so much of it! The staff were charming and extremely helpful. Not only were we taken on snorkelling trips but also a trip to the village of bomba to see a cave home to hundreds of bats! There's a ferry from ampana 3 x a week. At the moment I think it is Sunday, Wednesday and Friday and they're from a dock just outside of the town. People also arrived by chartered boats from other islands such as kadidiri. Couldn't recommend this place enough, fantastic value for money!

The first steps on this tiny, paradise island will convince you, that you may not find a better place to go. But this is just the beggining. Choose one of basic, but clean, beutiful located bungalows, go and watch the sunset straight from the little cliff, enjoy your time by going to a boat trip (included) to some wonderful snoorkelling spots near the Poya Lisa. You will love the place, the people there and also you will love the food:) I can't imagine living this place without being really satisfied and ready to go back there. Take some time and let yourself be a guest in this wonderful, warm and friendly island. This si not to be regretted:)

Of all places I've stayed at during my 7 week trip through Indonesia, Poya Lisa was one of the most wonderful places and keeps a special place in my heart. We stayed here after a somewhat dissatisfying stay at Island Retreat on Bomba (see my review on Island Retreat on this site), and absolutely LOVED Poya Lisa. It is kept by a lovely Indonesian family, who went out of their way to make us feel welcome and assist us with excursions and planning.

The bungalows are on the beach and are basic (bed, table, mirror, light, mosquito net) but very clean, spacious and well kept. All bungalows have a lovely private terrace overlooking the beach and water, with chairs, table and a hangmat. Our bungalow had a shared mandi bathroom (the 'shower' part is separate from the 'toilet') , but some bungalows have a private mandi. The shared mandi was kept very clean, with lots of fresh clean water.

The island is tiny but gorgeous, with two beaches and a pretty wooden 'bench' to watch the sunset. At a peak moment, there were probably five of us on the beach at the same time, so tranquillity assured !

The common dining area overlooks the water and is very cozy. It was a great way to socialise with other travellers and the local family. The food was very tasty and fresh. Breakfast usually consisted of various types of cake. Lunch and dinner involved much fish and rice, but always prepared in a different style and with different vegetables. Around 4 o'clock, they would bring us a homemade sweet treat (different every day), like scrumptious caramelised banana. When we went on a boat excursion in the afternoon, the lady wrapped up our treats so we could have them underway. The atmosphere was great and very relaxed.

The boat excursions are FREE if you keep relatively close to the island, and VERY CHEAP for longer distances compared to other retreats. Note that there is no diving here (you would have to go to another island unless you have your own gear) – but I found underwater life in the Togeans generally to be much less impressive than in Bunaken up north anyway.

All in all, Poya Lisa was wonderful and excellent value at a modest $12 per night. I wholeheartedly recommend it and I promise you will not want to leave !

Ismael, the owner built the small resort poialisa about 15 years ago on a small island next to bomba (10minutes by boat). The resort is managed by him and his family. The bungalows are basic with mandi but each in front of the beach and with moskitonet. Mean takes care of fresh water supply all the time-so you'll always have fresh water there for a shower. The beach is nice but as in other beaches in togian also you have seagras and its not so nice to swim when the tide is low. It is not the best spot for snorkeling, which is no problem because the family brings you at different very beautiful snorkeling spots around the island for free and even the day trips are only 25000 R per person instead of more than double price at other resorts. You get a lot of foot (4meals a day), mainly rice, noodles, fish and vegetables, and you can always ask for changing the menu. The family is very friendly, they do everything for you, even for loundry they ask you to pay as much as you like-they don't charge you a certain price. There is a diving center next to poialisa (island retreat) but apparently they are not very responsible with the divers there. That's why we chose to go to black marlin by boat for day trip and they where very professional. The poialisa stuff takes you there on their bout (they even bring lunch for you) and the boatride takes 2h and costs 300000 per boat (return). The atmosphere here is very nice and laid back, a lot of laughter, you can have bear (40000 R) and Arak here, tea, coffee and boiled water are free at all times. As in all other places you have to pay for toilett-paper, but you can also go to bomb a and by some.
