“Very enjoyable stay...”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 21, 2013

We stayed for a couple of nights in early September 2013. We really liked the hotel - the service was just as you'd want, the room was very comfortable, and the food was excellent.

Although we had booked one of the cheaper rooms, they had had a cancellation so upgraded us to one of their best rooms at no extra cost.

Just about the best value-for-money hotel I have stayed in in Scotland.

Room Tip: We had a room on the first floor - Cromdale. It was very spacious with great views across to the Cai...

We stayed 2 nights with friends, following a personal recommendation and were not disappointed. The hotel is in a quiet but not remote location. Iain, the owner, is very welcoming and he and his staff provide a very efficient service in a friendly but unobtrusive manner. Our room was spacious, comfortable & well-appointed. The food was outstanding, with plenty choice for dinner & breakfast. We particularly appreciated the crisp table linen, lovely china & crystal glassware. We will definitely be back!

beautifully presented, comfortable room, very friendly and helpful owners. Lovely quiet location, ideal for romantic getaway but I was there as a solo traveller and felt very welcome. Reasonably priced food and accommodation and the scottish breakfast was delicious and just what I needed for a day of walking. Only suggestion I could make would be wifi but actually a bit of time without technology didn't do me any harm. Very relaxing, peaceful spot, well located for access to the Cairngorms and speyside.

Room Tip: some rooms are not ensuite but you have a private bathroom across the hall which is fine but if that...

This is an outstanding hotel in every way. From the moment you are greeted by the owner with a tot of whisky, you are made to feel very much at home. The rooms are spacious and beautifully furnished and the food is as good as you will find anywhere. This is my second visit and it won't be my last

Yet another great stay at this beautiful hotel. Iain is a great host. We had a wonderful 2 nights' stay here. Everything was perfect from the the whisky & sherry welcome drink upon checking in, to the 5 course dinner on both nights and the delicious Scottish breakfast. We had the grilled kippers for breakfast which were fantastic! For dinner, we had a special request and Elaine didn't disappoint. We stayed in the Cromdale room which was spacious and featured an art deco style bathroom. The room is clean and comfortable. Great service and great food kept us coming back here time & again.

We have recently stayed here for 2 nights and endorse the positive comments of other reviewers. The warm welcome and whisky were most acceptable after a long journey. Our room was clean and very comfortable, with all amenities, including complementary water, fruit, tea and coffee.
Ian was a very helpful and friendly host.
The food was excellent, both at breakfast and in the evening. Red squirrels appearing in the grounds during breakfast just added to the charm.
The atmosphere of the Country House Hotel is very convivial, with opportunities to meet other guests, in our case from around the world. A highly recommended place to stay, which we hope to revisit.

As others have mentioned, a warm reception by Iain with a wee dram to relax before settling in to the room. One word to North Americans: there are no elevators, so even if you choose a room on the first floor, remember you'll have to schlep your luggage up the stairs from the ground floor, although Iain was only too happy to help.

Our room, Nethy, had quite a bit of room for a facility like this, although you have to be careful getting out of bed because of the "cottage" roofline that might cause you to knock your head a bit.
The bathroom was cramped, with a shower stuck in the middle like a phone booth between the toilet and the sink, but it was a good shower and it's understandable that in a house this old with rooms converted for a B&B you're going to have some dicey features.

Our friends' room Speanoch, had been upgraded since we booked it earlier in the year with some rather odd features such as a bathtub with coloured lights on the bottom and a bathtub flat screen TV and a heated floor. Although they paid the original price quoted, the current cost with these improvements was significantly higher. Speanoch also has a 4 poster bed and is a bit cramped compared to Nethy.

Breakfasts were superb and Iain and Elaine went out of their way to accommodate some special requests we made. We had dinner one night and it was wonderful. Everybody loved their choices and it begins with a small selection of canapés in the sitting area and ends there as well with petit fours and coffee.

All in all a great choice for touring the Cairngorms and Easteross.
