Netherfield Bed and Breakfast
Reviewed November 5, 2012

Wet and windy weather in September did not spoil our holiday with Canadian friends as Jan and Grant were excellent hosts and the very comfortable beds/ rooms and great breakfast made for a very enjoyable stay. We did not find a better B&B during our tour of Scotland.

Room Tip: Both rooms very good. Very good restaurant within walking distance

Not literally of course but coming, as I do, from a tree rat (grey squirrel) county where reds are now extinct it was wonderful to watch these elegant creatures on their dedicated feeders whilst we enjoyed our 7.30 breakfast. Yes this is a B&B which will happily provide early breakfasts for walkers who need an early start. What use is 8.30am breakfast when it is getting dark at 6.30pm as it was in early October? Other proprietors take note!
Two walkers, five Munros in the Cairngorms and four nights in this peaceful and comfortable accommodation. Marvellous breakfast better than many a 4* hotel as it is freshly cooked to order. One can even order local, smoked salmon with local, free range, scrambled eggs if bored with eggs, sausage, bacon etc. Fresh fruit salad is available as well as the usual cereals.
There are only 2 rooms, one double and one with King size bed and 2 singles which would normally be the family room but that was the room we shared. Large, very well appointed bathroom with brilliant shower to remove the mud, wet and exhaustion of long mountain days.
For dinner there is an expensive restaurant in the hotel next door or better value is the restaurant in Dulnain (walking distance) or Anderson's Restaurant in Boat of Garton, about 5 miles.
As an evening alternative to eating out, Jan and Grant MacLachlan will happily lay up the dinning room for guests wishing to bring in take away meals. This I think reflects their general philosophy to hosting a small, friendly and very personal B&B. Long may they prosper!

Room Tip: Only 2 rooms, depends on numbers, both face the same way.

Just perfect. The best without doubt. Brilliant room with superb views of surrounding countryside and wildlife everywhere. Couple this with the friendliest owner who just could not do enough for you, and you have a winner. The best B&B we have ever used anywhere. Bar none. Good parking too!!

We hope to return.

Room Tip: They are all good I think.. Just relax and enjoy.

After 5 days "wild camping" on the deserted island of Nan Ron off the far North coast, my friends and I could not have chosen a better B&B at which to enjoy a couple of nights of comfort and recuperation before continuing our journey back South to Shropshire. On arrival we received a warm and friendly welcome from our hosts Jan & Grant who were friendly, attentive and helpful (without being too fussing!) throughout our stay. Our room was spacious, tastefully furnished and decorated and spotlessly clean, with a large and most welcome en-suite shower. There was an overall attention to detail that is so rarely found in B&b accomodation and it was obvious that Jan and Grant take agreat deal of pride in their business. The breakfasts were a delight with an exellent choice, beautifully presented, the traditional Scottish music playing discreetly in the background further adding to the ambience and of course the Red Squirrels turning up on cue each morning added to our entertainment.
To summerise, the attention to detail places Netherfield head and shoulders above the majority of B&B's and I have no hesitation in giving this establishment my full recomendation, Jan and Grant really have got it spot on. Though my visits to this part of Scotland have become fewer in recent years, I look forward to a return visit in the not too distant future. Allan Heath.

Have to agree with the other reviews. Jan and Grant are excellent hosts and this would be the best B&B we have stayed at. Couldn't fault anything from the breakfast (we had a couple of vegetarian and vegan demands) to the rooms or the outlook. They will involve themselves as little or as much as you want. Iit si out of the main town of Grantown-on-Spey but well worth it.

Room Tip: Both rooms are good

What a fabulous first time stay. Our lat night in Scotland could not have been better. The hospitality and welcoming atmosphere were simply outstanding. The accomodation was 1st class ,5 star+ . Grants sumptious breakfast was to die for .Jan and Grant are to be commended for the their attention to detail , but more importantly for their assistance without being overtly present. The only negative was that the stay was far too short. Would highly recommend Netherfield to anyone at anytime.
Thank you Jan and Grant

Room Tip: Ask for the room looking out on the garden and the fields next door

Second time staying at Netherfield B&B. Excellent once again. Jan & Grant are a pretty cool couple, always willing to go that extra mile to help with any needs. Unfortunately the main road (A9) was closed due to a bad accident, we phoned to advise of a late arrival and we got directions of a diversion that saved us a lot of time. They really do look out for their guests. And lets not forget the house, as a previous poster stated, the room(s) have been re-decorated and look brand new. The food once again was up to a great standard. A good Scottish breakfast set us both up for the day... All in all, a fantastic weekend, helped greatly by a fantastic stay at a top-notch b&b.
