Visited Sani Valley for the first time in about 15 years last week (15-17 April 2014), and to say that it has changed since those days is something of an understatement. The chalets built around the edge of the dam are stunning, offering first class accommodation that compliments and contrasts with the rugged beauty of the mountains which provide the backdrop to the whole experience.

We (my wife, parents and sister) stayed in Rainbow Lodge, and although the weather on our arrival could have been warmer, the welcome from Gareth and his staff could not have been. The staff were helpful and friendly, and Gareth made sure that we had all we needed to make our stay a good one, including some welcome advice on where the biggest fish in the dam could be found.

Having emigrated to the UK 15 years ago, we made a special effort to visit Sani Valley on this most recent return to SA, having enjoyed some memorable family holidays there in the past. We were not disappointed, and I'm so pleased that me English wife was able to see the place I'd spoken so fondly about, even if the weather was a little 'British'.

In short, great accommodation, friendly and welcoming staff, and most importantly, a beautiful location with good fishing to boot. Thanks to Gareth and his staff. It definitely won't be another 15 years until we return.

Regards,

The Ross Family

Hi "the Ross family", yes the weather was a bit "Briish", but thank you for the kind words, and I hope you keep to your promise of not waiting for another 15yrs to come and visit us again. Hope you had fun up North :)

Regards

Gareth

We stayed over this previous easter weekend at the early mist cottage. What a truly amazing experience. There is not much to do but it was the best holiday we have been on.From horses feeding outside the porch to the wonderful Jacuzzi and massages done in the privacy of the cottage, I recommend this property to anyone wanting a break. The lack of MTN signal was a blessing in disguise and we befriended a giant cow at the animal farm who tried to squeeze himself out to play with us (I think).

So glad you had a good time, our Cow's name is Three......don't ask long story :) Luckily we have Vodacom, but sometimes as you say it is better to not have any reception! Thank you for your positive feedback. Regards

Sani Valley lodge showed out to be the best we could have hoped for as the first place on our almost two- week long round trip of Drakensberg and Lesotho. The way we were welcomed was fantastic: We had not confirmed our booking since we hadn't been sure we'd be able to make it all the way from a Ponta do Ouro in Mozambique in one day, and when we decided to push it through we couldn't get through on the phone. We did, but arrived very late. Host Gareth did not show any sign of being annoyed by our late and unexpected arrival, was just very friendly and apologetic for not being able to serve dinner as the kitchen people had left a couple of hours earlier. We assured that we had some supplies and would be fine but asked if it would be possible to buy some eggs and bread to make a simple supper. Five minutes after we were shown our beautiful, cosy chalet by the lake, and literally at the same time a basket with eggs, bread, milk, butter and fruit arrived. We were almost overwhelmed by the hospitality and flexibility. From there, we just confirm all the great reviews this place has received: Well deserved!
The breakfast by the lake in the sun, the little walk we did to the "Beacon Hill", the dinner that was delivered to our chalet, the helpfulness of the host to sort our journey's following leg, and the general friendliness and personal atmosphere - all makes it so easy to recommend to anyone looking for a quiet, relaxing retreat in beautiful surroundings.

After driving all the way from Mazambique in one day you deserved a good welcome :) I take it that you managed to survive the "big" hike in Lesotho! Thank you for the review and hopefully you get the urge to hike in our beautiful mountains again soon.

Our stay at Sani Valley Lodge was superb. The photographs on their website do not prepare you for the unbelievable beauty and serenity that awaits you. The management and staff were very welcoming, efficient and friendly. The lodges are tastefully decorated, spotlessly clean and far away from each other, all eluding to the most peaceful and special getaway my husband and I have had in a long time. The birdlife is incredible and we had zebra eating right outside our windows. Truely a one of a kind experience and we hope to return.

Hi Deanne, thank you for the positive feedback, sorry for the lack of cell reception, you will be glad to know that it was a temporary issue that has been sorted out with Vodacom :). Luckily the free wi-fi we offer in our reception area did not give the same problem. Hope to have you back sooner rather than later, regards, Gareth

The reserve accommodates couples, families and small groups, all with the choice of full & self catering.
