This review is about the "Volcano Life Experience" only and does NOT include the wonderful national park or the great visitor center that is run by another organisation.

The cable car takes you up to Teide in about ten minutes (27€). The view up there is great, but you have to take the cable car down again after only one hour.

The audio guide (4€) gives only very little information and some of the tracks are missing. Therefore, we asked the staff to check it out, so future visitors will not encounter the same problem. The answer we got was a rather unpolite "You will get your money back within two days", repeated several times to shut us up. But there was no interest at all in solving the problem itself.

I have never encountered such unfriendly staff, that cares so little about the quality of their service.

I appreciate this would have been an amazing experience. Our tour rep Fernandez did an amazing job as he dealt with lots of disheartened customers including ourselves as we had booked it for our wedding anniversary present to ourselves. But sadly the calima (desert sand) was in for the night and spoilt the sunset and stars experience. Fernandez did an amazing job with the 5 stars that shone through, Pluto, Saturn, moon, Polaris and one more forgot the name.

If doing the trip All I can advise that you can find the calima weather report and if dense as last night not book or be sadly appointed.

Also the reviews on this site are very mixed for the different trips offered so be careful which trip is which when reading under this title, as lots of people thought they were going up the cable car too. Which our trip did not do. ( we knew this)

Photo below taken at sunset spot! Less than 2 miles from Teide car cable car with calima well and truely in.

Good food, plenty of it but no choice available as feeding 3 coaches at once. If last coach to arrive feels very rushed. ( sadly that was us) and meet some lovely people.

Hot chocolate and cava stop as last of 3 coaches to arrive, the place had run out of hot chocolate and/cava.

Would I book again - maybe if I could not drive! But at present We Feel We could do this trip with a picnic, car and star app like others had done around us....

This is overall a great experience but could be tweaked to make it even better for the price. But it is the only way to see the sunset at the peak of Teide (basically going up the cable car after the official closing time) and do star gazing as well, so there is no real competition if you want an all-in-one activity. Our main criticism was that the stated time of arrival is about an hour before the activity actually starts with the drive in the cable car up to the top of Teide. It would be much better to have a drinks reception while people are waiting. Otherwise people are just hanging around and not even water is offered. Afterwards everything worked very well. Our guides were friendly and knowledgeable. Cable car trip and sunset at the top are lovely - you are offered a glass of bubbly there! - and plenty of opportunities for photos. Make sure you bring a jacket and comfortable shoes for mildly strenuous walk of about 20 mins each way. Gorgeous landscapes all around. After cable car ride down, it is time for buffet dinner which is tasty and plentiful with Canarian wines flowing. It is not Michelin star level in terms of creativity, but if you expectations are realistic, you should not be disappointed. While we were eating, experts from the Observatory were setting up 4 telescopes pointing at the Moon, Jupiter and Saturn. Although there were about 50 of us, we had more than one opportunity to view the planets through all of the telescopes, so it should not feel busy. Make sure you book on a night when there is no full moon, otherwise you won't see much! We had perfect viewing conditions, bot of the stars with the naked eye and the planets with telescopes. Astronomers from the Observatory take groups by language to point at all of the constellations. We were even able to see the Milky Way. They throw in quite a bit of science in the chat, which suits more people more than others. Overall a great experience!

We took this tour on the 21st June, the summer solstice.
We were looking forward to taking the cable car at sunset but unfortunately the weather conditions (wind) did not allow it. Instead, for plan b, they took us on a coach to the observatory to watch the sunset from there, which was pretty incredible. We also enjoyed a mini tour of the observatory itself which was a bonus.
During the sunset we were served Canarian wine (soft drinks were available too) and enjoyed the sun setting next to mount Teide, creating a gorgeous silhouette of the volcano. Spectacular viewpoint.
After the sunset, we went back to the cable car station where we were treated to a canarian feast of local delicacies served cocktail style. The food was delicious. Beer, wine and soft drinks were available throughout and included in the cost of the tour.
Once it was completely dark outside (around 11pm), we went down the hill away from light pollution where we were treated to a sight that you would rarely get to see. Thousands and thousands of stars with constellations clearly visible. There were some telescopes set up for us - one pointing at Jupiter (you could see 3 of the moons), one pointing at Saturn (rings clearly visible) and one pointing at a binary star.
Our guide, Luca (Lucas?), was extremely knowledge and spent time talking to us about the constellations and pointing them out, even giving explanation of the history of the names. He was clearly very passionate about the stars and we all learnt something from him.
Overall, I would highly recommend this tour. We are already planning to go back in the winter to do it again and see a different sky.

What a great trip and experience to be part of. 100% a must do. Definitely worth the price and time to complete. A very astounding and educational visit. Different languages provided and the crew members were fabulous and very informative and helpful.
