“DEFINATELY COMING BACK”
Reviewed September 2, 2011

Me & my daughter stayed Fri-monday & loved every minute. The staff were fantastic, the room although basic was comfy & the food was amazing, i found the stairs to our room a bit steep as we were on the 2nd floor. It gets packed out over the weekend which makes it even better. We preferred Hotel Abina better than Amsterdam & we will definitely be staying here again. Thanks guys for making our visit one of the best yet.

Room Tip: rooms are basic with sink,tv, & the most comfortable beds ive slept on in a hotel, stairs to 2nd...

We stayed at Cafe/Bar Abina last weekend for 3 nights, Fri, Sat & Sun. Admittedly the 3 busiest nights of the week, but the noise from the bar below was UNBEARABLE! It went on until 3.30 am Fri & Sat but was significantly quieter on Sun night. We were so tired from the lack of sleep that we really didn't enjoy our trip as much as we'd hoped. On our last day we were asked how we felt about the noise, so they were obviously aware of problems We were told that the owner had quiet apartments nearby which we could rent if we were to return [unlikely]
We were booked into the bar by a friend who was due to travel with us, but at the last moment they couldn't make it.....little did he know what he'd missed!
The staff were very friendly & helpful & the food was excellent in the restaurant- it was full to overflowing on all 3 nights with people of all ages.
The extremely small twin bedded room we had was pretty grotty. The wash basin in the room was so tiny it was impossible to do much else other than brush your teeth.Decor was extremley poor- flaking plaster & paint & loose & wobbly power point that failed to recharge my mobile phone due to wobbly/loose connection. We had to unplug the tv in order to use it for shaver/phone recharger! There was no other powwr point. The wardrobe/cupboard was so narrow it was difficult to close the door because of the hangers.
We literally stuck to the carpet & I was glad I'd worn my Crocs , as I would not have used the wet room/shower across the narrow corridor without wearing them! There was a separate loo which was miniscule & rather smelly- despite being clean.
We did get clean towels every day however & the beds were very comfortable & we were made to feel welcome by the staff.
This is a place I can imagine studentsor those on a very tight budget staying [tho we paid approx £35 each per night which is not exactly cheap] it is NOT a place to stay if you are perhaps middle aged & like peace & quiet.
This is primarily a bar with rooms but it would be much more sensible to revamp the whole upstairs if they want to let rooms...or just concentrate on it being a bar & restaurant. The stairs up to our room were the narrowest & steepest I have ever seen - quite dangerous we thought.
Cafe Bar Abina is in a very pretty, leafy quiet suburb of Amsterdam which was a pleasure to walk through. Bit of a trek by bus/metro or tram into the Amsterdam itself tho'......approx 30 mins away.

Room Tip: All rooms would be as noisy as they are all above the bar.
