“"Excellent trip"”
Reviewed June 3, 2013

These caves are a great place to visit and certainly different because they are volcanic and we have never seen lava tunnels before. The volcanic centre is included in the price and is very interesting, and you also get two videos, one in 3D. We thoroughly enjoyed it and found it to be good value for money.

“Snoooooore”
Reviewed May 30, 2013

Maybe it doesn't help that I've been to some pretty amazing caves around the world but these truly were dull, and massively over priced. The guide was the most laxidasical person you could imagine and although her English was excellent she sounded more like she were giving a eulogy than a cave tour: bored doesn't quite cover it.
The actual cave tour lasted no longer than 25 minutes and the rest of the exhibition (especially the videos) look like they'd been dragged kicking a screaming from the early 90's. The information in the centre is however pretty interesting and in-depth so I can't really fault that.
If it were €1 or €2 it might be worth a visit but frankly the best thing about this place is the road in and out which, indecently is absolutely unmissable.

Something to do if the weather is not too good. The volcanic centre is included in the trip and very interesting.

These caves are situated in the north coast of Madeira, in the town of São Vicente. When visiting the caves you can real fell like if you are making a trip to the centre of the Island... The volcanism Centre offers you a nice 3D expericence .

“Amateurish but entertaining display & show, interesting cave visit”
Reviewed April 1, 2013

The Volcanism Centre's fun but limited and a bit disappointing - the model of the volcano is distinctly amateurish, though entertaining, the journey down into the earth clearly isn't (despite the shaking of the supposed lift car), the film is all right but you can find better on Google or You Tube. The optional tour of the caves/lava tunnels themselves are interesting though - really surprising that lots of visitors didn't choose to go there at all.
Probably good for younger children, & their families, or OK as a wet-weather option. Don't make a special trip to visit this though.....
