Well, we'd been hiking all day and we were hungry -- and Le Vendangerot is the only restaurant in Rully, but it still was excellent. We did a Menu the first night, I had a wonderful salad with fois gras and smoked duck that would have made a meal in itself. Lots of choices for mains, the coquilles st-jacques and salmon were excellent. The second night we did a la carte (figure an hour or so per course, no rushing allowed!) to save time and get to bed. I had the tuna two ways: tartare and in a patty. Fabulous. Both nights we met people at the next table who come to the restaurant especially for the food. A couple from Brussels always stopped on their way to the Cote d'Azure, and a British gentleman who made a pilgrimage every year. Don't miss it!

This restaurant, tucked away in the famous wine-producing vilage of Rully near Chagny in southern Burgundy, is one of our absolute favourites. Everything that we have eaten there over the last year has been of the highest quality. A choice of menus means that something will be accessible on almost every budget. But even the cheapest evening menu (29 euros) is guaranteed not to disappoint.
Yesterday we all went for the 35 euro menu (not the most expensive) and enjoyed succulent fois gras poelé, delicious crusty lamb, a fine cheese-board and a choice of excellent desserts. The aperitif maison is a delicious fruity cremant and the meal began with the most weightless and tasty tomato mousse imaginable.
The wine list allows you to go for some truly excellent Rully 1er cru (all reasonably priced at 30 euros), or, if you must, for something cheaper from other regions.
The dining room is friendly and the service impeccable. The restaurant also has the real bonus of being one of the very few open on Sunday evenings. There is a terrace looking on to the quiet village square for fine weather.
Not to be missed.

We booked a night here knowing from the other reviews that the hotel itself was not that great - but the restaurant was rated quite highly. I would say we got exactly what we expected... a very nice meal in a quaint, sleepy town. The restaurant was completely full so obviously a popular choice amongst locals. The hotel, as reviews had warned us, was tired and spartan. The walls are paper thin - we actually woke up a few times to the snoring of some neighbours either next to or above us... Thankfully, we had low expectations for the hotel going in - and were mainly using it so that we could enjoy a nice meal and have some wine and not have any worries about driving anywhere after. I wouldn't say that the restaurant is "brasserie prices" as one reviewer called it - we still paid €135 before tip (though that includes aperitifs, and a bottle and a half of wine)... but we found the prices reasonable for the great meal we had. Service was fairly brisk and impersonal at both the hotel and the restaurant but this really was no bother to us. The cheese tray is quite impressive as well.

we live 5 km from this restaurant and attempt to visit all restaurants in the 20 km radius.
this one is so far the best. I

Vendangerot seems to have principles opposite these of La Grange, also in Rully - Grange attempts to impress with presentation and weird concoctions which often don't taste as good as they look.
Vendangerot makes heavy use of classic French style - creamy sauces, foams, and all the things which French cuisine is famous for.
This is the food style in the best french tradition - big on cream and foam- It does not aim to make edible art -
the presentation is not daring, but the food flavour and quality are unsurpassed.

We visited on Saturday, off-season. Both of us took 37 euro menus. We noted the impeccable service and pleasant mood.

For appetizers, we chose prawns in risotto and foie gras with figs and greens.
Both were very good, but prawns were especially tasty - super creamy, full of flavour, absolutely top.

For main dish we chose steak with morels and pigeon with pan-fried foie gras.
Both were to die for - a generous usage of cream assured a feeling of the total satisfaction.
Cheese board had good selection.
Desserts: " Rullyotin" - something like chocolate mousse over a crispy bottom with ice cream on the side and apple tart which in my opinion should be served with something else than a spoon of sour cream - I thought it didn't match well
but it was a tiny hiccup in a great experience.

We will be back.

Wow!!! There's a lot of 'rubbish' being served in Burgundy restaurants-you 'pay-through-the-nose' and 2 hours later your tummy doesn't feel that good! So..Le Vendangerot!!..Lovely location in the quiet square in the centre of Rully(surrounded by lovely vineyards)..overlooking a lovely garden in the centre of the square. In summer it's great-you can sit outside facing the garden & there is an electirc awning they pull out to shelter from the sun..when it's 23c you need this!!. Superb food- I like La Maloisse in nearby Chagny (3 star Michelin) but this place is not far off!! Sometimes they serve variations of lobster dishes-a real must!! Their lamb dishes are superb! This is an exceptionally good restaurant. I have had a holiday home in Burgundy for 10 years & moved permanently in 2007. In London- I liked Le Gavroche....
