But they do it here, and from the moment we pulled in to the moment we pulled out nothing was too much trouble. We had a tedious journey from southend Essex which lasted 6 Hours, so you can imagine our exciment when we saw the fantastic accomodation. The home made meals and breakfast are excellent. All in all well done and keep up the excellent service you provide.

We have stayed at Fern Cottage twice and can't get enough of it. We travel from Texas and always find a time to visit Pete and Sue. They feel like old friends. And Sue's baked egg is like no other!! Fantastic full English Breakfast! We will be back for Christmas and hope to book at least one night at the Cottage!

My fiancé David and I stayed at Fern Cottage B&B from Thursday 6th August to Monday 10th. We went to see the Balloon Fiesta in Bristol, because there is so much sightseeing to do in the area I booked a four night stay. Sue was very obliging and met us from the car when we arrived, (a little later than planned due to traffic in Bristol as we had come from visiting Cheddar Gorge first).

We stayed in the Lavender room which from the pictures on the website just called to me, and which never disappointed. The Lavender room is the first of three en-suite bedrooms in the stable block which also retain their old stable half doors.

Once met, Sue gave us a guided tour of the amenities of the B&B. We were shown the breakfast room which stays open ‘til 9am so guests can get videos and fresh milk and then the patio overlooking a crop field and Siston Court where Oliver Cromwell stayed during the Civil Wars. Siston Court was a lovely setting for when the balloons from the fiesta flew over the countryside from the city.

Sue let us settle in, even asking if we needed help with our luggage and about 10 minutes later she came back with a tray of lovely warm scones and clotted cream with strawberry jam…heaven!!

Because we were leaving the B&B at five in the morning the next day to see the early take off of the air balloons, Sue offered us cereals and milk in our room for when we came back for breakfast, which was a nice thoughtful gesture.

In the room there is an abundant amount of tea and coffee, a kettle and a jug of filtered water. There are also extra pillows if needed. Everything is very clean, we couldn’t fault the room. The internet is adequate. Sue also showed us the information booklet in the room where there is a list of things to do and places to eat. Sue was very helpful in giving us directions to Bottelinos.

On the Friday we got up at an ungodly hour and saw the surreal take off of the balloons at the fiesta. With not sleeping well in a strange bed and getting up early I had a migraine which lasted two days. In the afternoon we visited SS Great Britain, Brunel’s great ship. As stated we went to Bottelinos for Friday’s meal. The restaurant is about 1 mile away from the B&B and very busy with birthday parties. We had the salmon which was a little too char grilled for my liking.

On the Saturday we managed to get to breakfast in time. Of a weekend its 9am and of weekdays its 8.30am. There is a menu that you pick from the day before, the salmon smelled nice but we kept to our cereal, tea and coffee. We met Pete who was helping Sue with the service. He was very friendly and helpful to all guests and asked us every day where we were going to visit that day, he seemed genuinely interested.

That day we decided to go to Longleat, which is about 1 hours drive away. Due to its popularity the park is very busy but we saw the house and grounds, had a cruise of the half mile lake and spent 2 hours going round the safari park listening to Kate Humbles commentary on a CD we were given for the car. The highlight of the safari was that we got to feed the Fallow Deer, which were so gentle and timid. We should have bought two cups of food as we enjoyed it so much!!

On Saturday evening, with the sun setting David and I sat in the field where the chickens are and watched the balloons flying closer to the B&B but the wind took them away, so we saw them flying across the trees in a nearby field.

On the Sunday we visited Bristol Zoo and spent 6 hours there. The weather was glorious and we got to see all the animals there. I simply love the Red Panda and she (Jasmina) was out in her enclosure happily running about and jumping from tree to tree. David and I saw an animal show where they displayed a Racoon, an Eagle Owl (which flew away) and a Red Ruffed Lemur. We also watched the Gorilla feeding as well as going underground to see the Seals swimming. We had a great time there and afterwards we finished off the day by visiting the Clifton Suspension Bridge and also the Observatory and Caves.

Fern Cottage B&B is ideally located close to the ring road which is home to many shopping estates which have many of the top restaurants and fast food joints not to mention a Vue cinema. The B&B is about 15 mins drive to Bristol town centre and 20 mins to Bath so in a good location for travel.

Monday was our checking out day, we enjoyed breakfast and after paying the bill we were said farewell too by both Sue and Pete. We didn’t go straight home, we visited Bath. We did the park and ride which is better than driving in and trying to find a parking space. It is £2.50 return on a weekday and £2.00 on a weekend. We visited the Roman Baths and Pump House and tasted the water (which was not very pleasant and tasted rather metallic). In the afternoon we visited Bath Abbey and walked the 212 steps to the tower for amazing views of the surrounding city. We also saw the Circus and Royal Crescent before walking in the footsteps of Jane Austen.

Overall, David and I had a wonderfully relaxing weekend at the B&B and enjoyed travelling around the area sightseeing. We saw all we set out to do. The weather for the Balloon Fiesta was glorious and all of the comments on this website for Sue and Pete’s B&B are well deserved. Thanks for a welcoming and memorable stay.

We had our 2 night honeymoon at Fern Cottage from the 3-5th August 2009. We had a lovely experience. Sue and Pete were friendly, warm and welcoming and made us feel that we were very special.

The breakfast was delicious, all great produce, the breakfast menu itself meant you were spoilt for choice. We had a dinner there on our first night, and it was wonderful, the steak melted in your mouth.

We were in the Lavender room and it was very comfortable, clean, tidy and fitted in with the cottage surroundings. We had a lovely view of the garden from our room. Everthing you needed was available in the room, toothbrushes, razors to environmentaly friendly showergel. You literally need your clothes only.

Check out the hot tub in the summer house, with chill out music and inscence to really make you as relaxed as you can possibly get.

Sue and Pete's chickens lay the eggs used in breakfast and even the chickens are very happy at Fern Cottage.

It is an environmentaly, sustainable holiday venue with no attention to detail missed. We will definately be back, and we could not recommend this any higher.

It is so close to Bath and Bristol, you can sight see in the day and relax in the evening.

I would just like to say, what a fantastic weekend we had at Fern Cottage. It is a truly stunning bed and breakfast. Very comfortable, very clean, well equipped, very homely and the hot tub was just fab. I could go on and on with lots of nice things to say but I will run out of room.

On arrival Sue showed us around which was really lovely then so we knew where everything was, it made us feel at ease and comfortable. We put out luggage in the room and Sue brought us some tea and scones and we sat and ate these out on the decking looking out over the beautiful views of the countryside.

Our breakfasts were absolutely wonderful, as were our sandwiches on Friday evening. I think that the fact that Sue and Pete use local produced products really makes a difference in the quality of the food. It just adds to how great the bed and breakfast is. All their awards are certainly well deserved and I am sure Fern Cottage will continue to flourish.

We found the information pack in our rooms excellent and very useful especially the little note of directions to various places, extremely helpful and we did not get lost at all. So thank you. It is in a great location you can visit Bath or Bristol and other surrounding towns and villages. We used the park and ride into Bath, it took 10 minutes to drive and park our car then pick up the bus. They come every 15 minutes and just as quick going back to the car, and only cost £2.00 return. It was much nicer this way, as we got to see more of Bath. We visited the Roman Baths, which was fantastic and so interesting. We paid a visit to Sally Lunns and tasted one of her famous buns, gorgeous especially with clotted cream and jam. Next time, we will be visiting Bristol and some of the other places nearby, and will without a doubt stay for longer next time.

We have told all our family, friends and work colleagues what a wonderful time we had and how fantastic the bed and breakfast was.

Oh and just one more thing! It is the best bed and breakfast I have stayed in, most certainly.

The best B&B we have ever stayed in. Sue and Pete go out of their way to make you feel welcome. The breakfasts and evening meal were absolutely delicious - make sure you try their homemade pork and cider casserole and marmalade. The Bergamot room was well furnished with a nice view across the paddock. The bathroom was clean with a good shower.

We would definately recommend this B&B to friends and family.

Thank you for a wonderful stay.

My husband and i have just returned from a 2 night stay at the wonderful Fern Cottage. Sue and Pete are amazingly welcoming and cannot do enough to help to make you stay relaxing and wonderful. The room was absolutely beautiful and we were welcomed with tea and scones - what could be better. Breakfast was fabulous with wonderful choices. We came here to celebrate our 20th wedding anniversary and it was the perfect place to do that and we would love to come back in the very near future.
