“The perfect B&B experience for a relaxed, welcoming and happy stay”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 9, 2009

My partner and I found Fern Cottage whilst looking for accommodation for my parents for their trip to Bath. I read the breakfast menu [--] out loud and our booking was made very shortly afterwards.

On arrival (late as we travelled a distance) Sue took the time to introduce us to the full Fern Cottage experience. Our room (Lavender) was beautifully clean, warm, well furnished and kitted out and little touches had been added such as the binoculars to watch the wildlife in the fields beyond, dressing gowns, an umbrella to borrow and wine glasses to relax with our own tipple after the journey. It was separate from the main building and so we felt we had a private haven.

A lot of care and attention is spent on every small detail and this is how the magic happens, a list is left in the room for you to pick your breakfast for the next morning, down the the smallest detail i.e. whether you'd like butter, spread, jam or nothing with the toast you have chosen. When you go to breakfast your own table is allocated and set just for you making your stay more individual and personal.

In my opinion Sue and Pete have found the perfect balance of being attentive and caring but not overbearing. It felt like coming home after our day of touristy stuff in Bath. All aspects of our stay were made simple by Sue and Pete with suggestions such as recommendations for places to visit or to eat, supported by a comprehensive folder in our room with menu's and maps and price guides for places to dine, places to visit and ways to get to things like the park and ride.

We mentioned one morning that we were going to the Thermae Spa in Bath and Sue offered us discounted tickets and also to rent the dressing gown, slippers and bath towel that we would need from them at a reduced rate. Within ten minutes we each had a sports bag to take with us which we could carry our own items in. Genius.

Last but not least we HAVE to include the breakfasts. We are fans of locally sourced, homegrown food. We were not disappointed. Sue is a seriously good cook. My partner loved the devilled pigs kidneys in particular and we took some chicken eggs home with us to enjoy after our visit.

As you can probably tell I am still brimming with happiness after our trip. I hope you are able to enjoy a stay at Fern Cottage too.

My husband and I booked Fern Cottage for a weekend break. It was our 10th wedding anniversary and we wanted to celebrate our years together in peace. Having two lively young boys, peace is a rare commodity. So we planned a quiet weekend in Bath. I came across Fern Cottage B&B on the internet. I was immediately impressed with the fact that sustainability was high on Sue & Pete's agenda.
The rooms were lovely, tastefully decorated, not overdone. The hosts had seen to every tiny detail. It was the breakfast that won hubby's heart. We are pleased to say that the reality exceeded our expectations! Sue and Pete were so welcoming and warm...we loved the environment. And the whole experience was just what we needed. From delicious home-made scones to the wonderfully fresh breakfast, everything was done with warmth and excellence. We'd love to go back.

We arrived on the Friday night and were greeted warmly by Sue and Pete. What a lovely couple - by far the best service I have received at either a B&B or hotel. Informative and helpful they made our stay all the more enjoyable. We had ordered some food for our arrival and once we had settled in we made our way to the breakfast room where we were served a fantastic Pork casserole. We bought our own wine and were left to our own devices until we finished our meal, which was fantastic!!
We then chose our breakfast for the following morning - so much to choose from!!!
We were in the Chamomile Room which is part of the cobnverted stable. Teh room was very clean and comfortable and very nicely decorated and had lovely views from both the bedroom window and the small lounge area. Everything has been prepared with so much detail but we felt totally at home there. All the usual amenties were there - the bedroom had a wardrobe, side tables with lamps, tv, video and freeview. The bathroom was very clean, tidy with a large shower, basin a toilet. The small relaxation area has teo chairs, tea and coffee making facilities and a large folder containing all the information you may require during your visit plus where possible, enviromentally friendly products had been provided or used. A lot of thought had gone into the whole experience.
We were provided with the menu for our breakfast on arrival and this needed to be returned filled in that evening for the following morning. What a choice!!! We had a different breakfast every morning with the highlight being the 'baked egg'!!!!!!!!! See the website for details, it was awesome!!!!!!
The location was fantasitc - just outside Pucklechurch, it was remote enough to be able to go for a long walk in the countryside from the cottage but near enough to Bath to get there in about 15mins.
So all in all I would definately recommend Fern Cottage to anyone, and I already have! Myself and my partner will definatley be heading back there if we ever stay in the area again.

My partner and I booked Fern Cottage for a weekend break this march (09), after seeing it on the tv programme Local Food Heroes. It more than matched our expectations . We arrived without getting lost great directions ! Sue gave us a tour , wonderful views , garden etc and the chickens from which our breakfast eggs came from (very tasty). Sue and Pete are extremely friendly and hospitable we were given tea with delicious homemade scones cream & jam in our room while we unpacked. The rooms are immaculate, and attention to detail is second to none, sewing kit, hairdryer, bird species book &binoculars, bowl of fruit, fresh chilled drinking water, magazines, eco friendly toiletries, and nice towelling dressing gowns so its home from home, Everything is green, &enviromentally friendly. Our bed was very comfortable , as was our entire stay, breakfast is divine with a huge choice, homemade fruit salad and cooked breakfast are to die for!! we had dinner at a local pub restaurant recommended in out "to Do" file in our room which was lovely, Venison & Red Snapper mmmm. We had a great weekend exploring Bath and Bristol on the sunday. It was just a shame that the weekend passed so quickly! we will definately be returning and would like to thank Sue & Pete for a fantastic ,memorable stay. (the hot choclate & orange biscuits in the room are yummy !) so thanks again see you again soon, best wishes from Sharon & Garry xx

My husband and I celebrated our Wedding Anniversary during our stay at Fern Cottage. Not only were we welcomed like old friends, despite this being our first visit, but Sue and Pete were kind enough to leave an anniversary card in our room. The accommodation lives up to all that is promised on the web-site. Rooms are spotless and well thought out in terms of layout and equipment.: attention to detail is second to none. Food is of excellent quality, skillfully prepared and served with a smile. Nothing is too much trouble for Sue and Pete who are obviously determined to make their guests feel at home and want for nothing. All this and environmentally friendly too - what more can anyone want? We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and will definitely return to Fern Cottage at some future date.

What can we say that hasn't already been said! Sue and Pete couldn't do enough for us. I have a wheat and dairy free diet, and Sue did everything possible to accomodate me. We were warmly welcomed on the first evening and they managed to find us a place to eat. The room was lovely (we our now decorating our bedroom in that style!). Everything had been thought of, extensive menu choices, ecologically sound toiletries....

We could not fault them!

Wells it sounds like an F when you say it :-)

We arrived at Fern Cottage with great expectations and we were not disapointed. We got the royal tour of the premisis the grounds, the rooms and the dining area. Sue then insisted on making us a pot of coffee and tea which was brought to our rooms before she would allow us to think about unpacking.

Fern cottage is run to be a GREEN establishment as is as ECO friendly as possible without comprimising the experinence for the guests. On the Friday we arrived my wife my daughter and I were stunned by the quality of the rooms and facilities. I travel around the world a lot (not very carbon friendly) I have to tell you that I would pick Fern cottage above most of the so called 4/5 star hotels I stay in.

We knew that on Friday we would like Sue to cook for us as we would have had a long day having toured Bath before travelling to Fern Cottage. We had Pork Casserloe and Venison Casserole which were delicious and local sourced (you have to try Sue's cooking)

Sue and Pete serve a world class breakfast and the choice is incredible and such great quality. With four rooms the attention to detail is second to none.

This is a great location tom explore Bath, Bristol and further a field, the local amenities are very good, you are in the country with all the wild life arond you but a retail park is but a few minutes drive away.

The small touches are the inportant ones, each room has a bird indentification book and a pair of binoculars. We saw a Kestral and many differnet finches. Outside the dining area there are many bird feeders so at breakfast we were entertained by Sparrows, Blue Tyts, Great Tyts, Gold Finches, Coal Tyt, Raven and Robins and more.

(I know how to spell Tyt but the Trip Advisor automated system clearly does not understand that I am referring to feathered birds ( LOL)

In summary I would say t just go there. If you want to speak to us just send an email we would be very happy to talk to you.

Renny, Christine & Emma (very happy people)
