“Hidden Gem”
Reviewed August 20, 2013

It's off the beaten track, but worth the drive, just half an hour from Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. The LaHave Bakery is best known for a wide variety of specialty breads, made from just about every type of grain available. So popular are their products that they supply other stores throughout the province, such as Eos Foods in Wolfville. They also bake excellent cookies, muffins and other treats to supplement their lunch counter. Try the lemonade--it's exceptional.

The setting is beautiful, on a wharf on the LaHave River, and there is a craft co-op in the basement that caters to local artisans. You can arrive by boat, too. The building is very old, but well kept, typical of 19th century Nova Scotia seaside structures.

After lunch, take a drive south to Crescent Beach or Rissers Beach, along the sheltered waters of Green Bay. Don't be in a hurry--there's much to enjoy.

“A quick stop ...”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

On our cycling trip we made a quick stop at the bakery only because it was recommended by the tour company. We bought a sandwich to share along our cycling route but didn't expect much. However, much to our delight the ham & cheese on potato bread was fresh and very tasty. I only wish we'd bought two sandwiches.

“Okay place to eat”
Reviewed July 29, 2013

This place is very old and the selection fairly limited when looking for lunch. Their lunch sandwich and the deserts were good. We sat in seats right next to an antique drafting type table filled with old goodies.

“Sought out this wonderful spot for a second visit!”
Reviewed July 20, 2013

Not many options for a lunch or great snack on the drive from Bridgewater along the west side of the LaHave River but this place is worth spending some time. Great food in a quaint old building. Very close to the cable ferry across to the other side of the river which is worth a go. (In fact, the drive from Lunenburg, on Hwy 332 to Bayport, Rosebay and RIverport is very pretty; the ferry which takes you across the LaHave is just past Riverport). The gift shop and art gallery in the building are great! Go around back to the pier and have a chat with the boatbuilder.

“Old style ambience”
Reviewed June 30, 2013

This place has been here forever and for good reason. Quaint, rustic old style charm with home baked goods people travel far and wide for .... prices aren't cheap but spoil yourself and you won't regret it!
