My wife and I stayed here for one night on the 24th February 2013 in room 14, which is a double room on the first floor overlooking the car park. The reason to stay here is to visit" Le Mont saint Michel" which is clearly visible from the front of this property across the salt flats. To walk to the Mont car park is about 20 minutes (or drive and pay the 12 euros parking fee) where you can take the free scuttles to the base of the Mont.
We arrived at the Submerge around 13.30 hers to be told that our room wouldn't be ready until 16.00 hers. This seemed strange as on a Monday in February there weren't many rooms being used. There was however a coach party od Japanese tourists enjoying lunch. It seems that the Auberge caters for coach parties.
Disappointingly, when we arrived back at the prescribed 16.00 hers our room wasn't ready (What ?) and were offered a complementary drink while we waited the 40 minutes for our room to be serviced.
Our room was quite small and furnished in a "minimal corporate" style. The bathroom was poorly lit and had no window nor extractor fan - a major oversight in such a small room. There was neither soap nor shampoo left for customer use, another poor attention to customer service.
Our room was reached via an outside wooden staircase, from where we viewed the return of the Sheep flock from their salt marsh grazing which was a novelty and not the horrible smelly experience that other reviewers have posted. It's country life after all.
Our evening meal in the restaurant was a real disappointment. I chose the 24.50 euro set menu as this included a Salt Marsh lamb dish which turned out to be a "Lamb Surprise" dish as such a tiny amount of lamb was present. The plate of 3 lock cheeses was another disappointment, small or what?
Whether this Auberge has expanded too quickly or not (They have 38 rooms) does not excuse the very poor attention to customer service of this establishment. This is a shame as the front of house staff were helpful and considerate.
Would we stay here again? No.
