“A real Ruin”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2012

This is a real ruin with great stories of knights and saints. You can see from the model that great structures that once stood here. This early site was visited by St. Francis. There are enough buildings and walls left to see this place that was teaming with life. A place to stroll and the tour guides are remarkable, bringing the ruin back to life and giving you a feel for history of this place.

“Wonderful spot....”

We've seen a zillion churches with stained glass windows, etc. these are ruins from the 7th century or some such thing, with the new part from the 900s. Beautiful place. You have to experience to do it justice....

“Beautiful Ruins”

Lovely peaceful gardens, enough seating to sit and soak up the atmosphere, also good facilities and nice shop although the staff could have been friendlier

“Etched in the memory”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 7, 2012

This is a wonderfully atmospheric place to retreat to for peace and tranquility. We spent a wonderful afternoon amid the imposing ruins of the abbey. There are often art exhibits in the visitor centre and in a small house in the grounds - the one onsite at the moment (until Sept 2012) by Etienne Prat is superb! Entrance fee is still 5 euros for adults & studnets & under 18's are free - excellent value! Highly recommended for those who enjoy historical buildings & haunting connections with the past.

“Peaceful and Haunting”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 17, 2012

I love ruins and this is one great ruin. The history goes back to the 11th century and there are characters in the ruins that date from this time. The addition of the Abbot's house in the 17th - 18th century is interesting as well, it's very fine and not meant for a true monk, but an appointed friend of the king. The facade is unique and in the interior you can still see some of the 16th - 17th painted ceiling decoration. It's a bit out of the way, tucked away in a lovely area of Normandy, but definately worth a stop.
