“Little piece of heaven”

Stayed at the VIP Bungalow for a night and it was so worth the pricey rate (quite pricey for Thai standard). We got the buggy men to pick us up from the Walking Street and upon arrival, we were served cold orange juice. Check in was fast and our bungalow was a few rows away from the lobby. Room was clean, air-con was working well and the water pressure for the shower and toilet was better, compared to other hotels on the island. There is a hammock on the balcony, which is great. The resort has their own beach, with the most amazing view overlooking Ko Adang. There were less people and the beach is cleaner. The breakfast buffet was great. The staff could have smiled more. The only downside; the resort is quite far from the town so walking at night is not really an option as it is quite dark. The resort provides free transport. Unfortunately the staff seemed to have forgotten to pick us up from town so we had to pay for a taxi to get there. Not all taxis will be willing to send you there though.

Room Tip: Get the beach-side bungalows. They have the best view, located right on the beach. Splurge a bit cau...

We stayed here for 4 nights in a deluxe bungalow with a great view and we were satisfied. It is the most beautiful location on the island and very calm and quiet. We arrived with speedboat from Lanta and we had a free shuttle to the resort which was good because it is rather remote. The beach is really something, soft, white sand and a turquoise ocean makes it look like paradise and the light around sunset is stunning. There are some friendly dogs on the beach that sleeps all day under your sunbed. We took a oneday tour (via the resort) by longtail to nearby islands and it was the highlight of our trip - great snorkelling and spectacular views. We never went down to the village and had all of our meals in the resort restaurant. Good food but a rather odd system with staff standing around your table staring the whole meal. Made us feel quite uncomfortable. The restaurant is more like a gymnasium than a nice, cosy place. We had problems reaching the resort before we got there but they have got a great internet room so I really do not know why. And now to the beds. If you have ever slept on a floor, you know the feeling. The mattress was something beyond everything we have ever experienced. Only some good massage on Lanta later on could heal our broken backs. But nevertheless, if we return to Lipe, we would be back (haha) because of the location.

Knowing that it's a distance away from the main crowd area, we were expecting to chart a long boat after arriving at the immigration to head to the resort. But what a pleasant surprise spotting a green cart (like those in golf course) parked just next to the immigration office with a clear print of 'Mountain Resort' waiting to shuttle us up the hill to our resort. The receptionist was friendly and we got all the usual Thai warmly welcome. We stayed just a stone-throw away from the main building where the reception, dining area and free internet room are. Hence getting the wifi network was not too much of a problem although it's unstable at times. The surrounding view is just breath taking. We could just stare at it and do nothing all day. This part of Koh Lipe is probably the quietest with littlest number of long boats hitting the shores. Feel safe to just snorkel away! Hot food served by the resort's restaurant is good, probably some of the best Thai food we have had!

Room Tip: Go with Deluxe Seaview

haha..just come back from Koh Lipe, and athough we did not stay here, we came about once a day as it has free wifi and a lovely seating area, with decent food.

So, here are a few observations:

climbing of the stairs... Ok. Its more than 50 steps, but come on. If you cannot be asked even walking this much, what the hell are you doing on Koh Lipe?! Its backpacking domain still and keeps you in shape ;-p

Yes, there is a Diesel Generator. Its pretty noisy I guess, as we found out staying nearby, about 250m away down the other side. I think if I was to stay here, I would only ask for one of the VIP rooms, directly on the cliffs edge - easily the best rooms on the island! Amazing view and due to the fact that there is a wall around the whole resort, unlikely to be frequented by too many stray dogs!

Food/service!? never had a problem. I live in China and a smile goes a long way here, and does even more so in Thailand. Smile, be polite and remember you are not in some Westin, Hyatt or other upmarket resort. Never had a problem getting food and always tasty (specially the Vietnamese Spring rolls). Fish was fresh, as were ingredients and prices much of what you pay anywhere on Koh Lipe). Remember, everything has to come from the main land!

In summary, we spent hours there each day, used their deck chairs for free, had drinks at the bar on the beach (run by Ben a nice Graphic Design guy from Bangkok and not part of Mountain Resort), used their free wifi (not the fastest, but free!) and they even printed some documents for us (around 10 pages) free again. They also have a free shower when u come from the beach up to the resturant and took us down the hill in one of their golf carts, late at night. Will stay here next time!

Room Tip: the owner is Chinese. If you want fast and efficient service, these people seem to know what they do...

The look says it all. When you ask anyone at Mountain Resort for something, they give you the dirtiest 'how dare you ask me' look they've got. It is as if you are making them go out of their way to get you a plate of food.

After staying on the island for a few weeks, I began to hear this story over and over from others. To see for myself, I went for a plate of Pad Thai and a watermelon shake. You'd think I'd asked for froie gras and a bottle of champagne! I had gone to Mountain Resort once and one time too many.

To have the most beautiful location on the island is pretty damn lucky. To treat your customers in that manner is pretty foolish.

good point:
1.very unique view in koh lipe
2. nice view as well
3.quiet beach with few people
4.great service.

downside:
1.basic room(but it only cost me 15usd...so actually I dont have 2 much expectation)
2. a bit far location...during the high season, it should not be a problem...but during the low season, after I finish my dinner in sunrise beach...I have 2 cross the beach in front of Adamana resort without any light...I am travel alone...a bit scary...but would be a nice time for couples I GUESS...

Anyway, nice resort

as the title, The Mountain resort has the best view on Lipe Island. We stayed there for 4 nights. We were so lucky that stayed in the deluxe seaview where located on the beach. So we could see the sunset everyday there.

Any drawbcaks,
- So and So breakfast. you can find the same things every morning.
- Remote from Lipe Walking street even the resort provided us by minicar service.
- just 2 bottles of complimentary watter even you saty there a week.

Room Tip: Only the deluxe sea view for staying there.
