Knowing that it's a distance away from the main crowd area, we were expecting to chart a long boat after arriving at the immigration to head to the resort. But what a pleasant surprise spotting a green cart (like those in golf course) parked just next to the immigration office with a clear print of 'Mountain Resort' waiting to shuttle us up the hill to our resort. The receptionist was friendly and we got all the usual Thai warmly welcome. We stayed just a stone-throw away from the main building where the reception, dining area and free internet room are. Hence getting the wifi network was not too much of a problem although it's unstable at times. The surrounding view is just breath taking. We could just stare at it and do nothing all day. This part of Koh Lipe is probably the quietest with littlest number of long boats hitting the shores. Feel safe to just snorkel away! Hot food served by the resort's restaurant is good, probably some of the best Thai food we have had!

Room Tip: Go with Deluxe Seaview

haha..just come back from Koh Lipe, and athough we did not stay here, we came about once a day as it has free wifi and a lovely seating area, with decent food.

So, here are a few observations:

climbing of the stairs... Ok. Its more than 50 steps, but come on. If you cannot be asked even walking this much, what the hell are you doing on Koh Lipe?! Its backpacking domain still and keeps you in shape ;-p

Yes, there is a Diesel Generator. Its pretty noisy I guess, as we found out staying nearby, about 250m away down the other side. I think if I was to stay here, I would only ask for one of the VIP rooms, directly on the cliffs edge - easily the best rooms on the island! Amazing view and due to the fact that there is a wall around the whole resort, unlikely to be frequented by too many stray dogs!

Food/service!? never had a problem. I live in China and a smile goes a long way here, and does even more so in Thailand. Smile, be polite and remember you are not in some Westin, Hyatt or other upmarket resort. Never had a problem getting food and always tasty (specially the Vietnamese Spring rolls). Fish was fresh, as were ingredients and prices much of what you pay anywhere on Koh Lipe). Remember, everything has to come from the main land!

In summary, we spent hours there each day, used their deck chairs for free, had drinks at the bar on the beach (run by Ben a nice Graphic Design guy from Bangkok and not part of Mountain Resort), used their free wifi (not the fastest, but free!) and they even printed some documents for us (around 10 pages) free again. They also have a free shower when u come from the beach up to the resturant and took us down the hill in one of their golf carts, late at night. Will stay here next time!

Room Tip: the owner is Chinese. If you want fast and efficient service, these people seem to know what they do...

The look says it all. When you ask anyone at Mountain Resort for something, they give you the dirtiest 'how dare you ask me' look they've got. It is as if you are making them go out of their way to get you a plate of food.

After staying on the island for a few weeks, I began to hear this story over and over from others. To see for myself, I went for a plate of Pad Thai and a watermelon shake. You'd think I'd asked for froie gras and a bottle of champagne! I had gone to Mountain Resort once and one time too many.

To have the most beautiful location on the island is pretty damn lucky. To treat your customers in that manner is pretty foolish.

good point:
1.very unique view in koh lipe
2. nice view as well
3.quiet beach with few people
4.great service.

downside:
1.basic room(but it only cost me 15usd...so actually I dont have 2 much expectation)
2. a bit far location...during the high season, it should not be a problem...but during the low season, after I finish my dinner in sunrise beach...I have 2 cross the beach in front of Adamana resort without any light...I am travel alone...a bit scary...but would be a nice time for couples I GUESS...

Anyway, nice resort

as the title, The Mountain resort has the best view on Lipe Island. We stayed there for 4 nights. We were so lucky that stayed in the deluxe seaview where located on the beach. So we could see the sunset everyday there.

Any drawbcaks,
- So and So breakfast. you can find the same things every morning.
- Remote from Lipe Walking street even the resort provided us by minicar service.
- just 2 bottles of complimentary watter even you saty there a week.

Room Tip: Only the deluxe sea view for staying there.

I'm going to be as constructive as I can with this review so it helps other visitors make their decision:

BAD POINTS for Mountain Resort (there are so many I dont know where to begin!)

1. We had to climb a massive amt of steps from the boat to the top at reception and nobody came down to help carry our bags eventhough there were two staff sitting on the beach
2. When we finally made it to the top of the steps to reception, they didnt' have any record of our reservation. We waited 20 minutes for them to figure out that we had paid and booked our villa!!
3. The receptionists and all other restaurant staff are VERY unhelpful. There are about 15 staff in the restaurant and reception at one time and NONE of them try and assist you in anyway unless you walk towards them and ask them something and then when you ask, they have this attitude like, 'why the hell are you asking me this, you are BOTHERING ME!'
4. There is one transgender lady-boy at the reception who speaks english better than the rest, i guess that's why she's at the front desk -but she is rude, not helpful and has an attitude - UNLESS you are a white male.. then you will get the best service from her hands down.
5. No room cleaning unless you specifically ask for it.
6. there are only a few beach chairs on the beach!! and no food n beverage service on the beach! They could make so much money if they provided that - but there is nothing down there and you have to climb 100 steps up a hill to get water or anything from your room so dont forget anything! and pack a lunch or snack!
7. Walking from mountain resort to the town area is VERY VERY DARK! and can be very muddy too! I would NOT recommend staying here if you are on your own.

GOOD POINTS for MOUNTAIN Resort :

1. The privacy of the beach
2. there are NO long tails boats parked on this beach like all the other resorts
3. The sunset is absolutely gorgeous from this beach

Room Tip: Best rooms are the separate bed villas - best view

When we arrived on Koh Lipe (from Lankawi) we rocked up on the beach and were all smiles until we realised how far away Mountain Lodge is!! You are dropped off on Pattaya Beach by immigration and it is a good 20minute walk to Mountain Lodge, and its not called that for nothing - the gigantic hill you have to climb up is a tough one in blistering heat with a heavy backpack!! When we managed to get there, we liked the resort, its clean and well maintained, we were in a delux bungalow (one of four on the beach) and we were really pleased when we saw inside, we had a couple of chairs and a hammoc on the balcony, you have a fridge/tv/bed and shower/toilet - accomodation is basic, they don't even do house keeping unless you specifically ask, which we didn't bother with because we were only there 3 nights! Apart from a pack of howling dogs it was quiet at night, we were woken up in the mornings by the long tail boats but it wasn't too bad. Staff are interesting - lots of ladyboys who were surly and moody - and the food is overpriced, we had lunch - a sald a sarnie and some chips and it cost us more than a dinner at a nice restaurant on the sea front!! It is a bit of a trek from the main centre and at mid day you can't be bothered to brave the heat however it does have the best views and from what i've heard it is the quietest resort! I would recomend it, however it is not amazing value fo money!
