“Fine seafood at the marina”
Reviewed July 25, 2014 via mobile

We came at low season and while many of the bars and restaurants in the modern marina were closed luckily this one wasn't. It is right by the water and both from the terrace and nicely decorated main dining room have lovely sea view.
There is a great selection of seafood including local catches and all dishes we had from starters to mains were well cooked and presented. Service was great and even our young son was well looked after. A highly recommended local favorite.

“Alarm bells are ringing. Food quality and attitude is deteriorating in 2014”
Reviewed July 20, 2014

Well, in 2013, there were 2 Ferdi Baba restaurants in Çeşme peninsula, the first one being the original Ferdi Baba in Şifne, and the second one the newer & fancier branch in Alaçatı.

In 2014, there is a third Ferdi Baba in Çeşme Marina, and hoops, my personal experience at Ferdi Baba (and the experiences of most TA members) gets worse.

To summarize: 1) The mezes do not taste & appear as fresh as in 2013. 2) The prices are up by around 20-25 % as compared to last year, and there is even a 'cover charge' in the shape of few pieces of bread. 3) When you call to make a reservation, you are told that the restaurant is 'fully booked', although you see that there are 3-4 free tables when you decide to go there and 'try your luck'. For the first time, I thought that there were coincidentally many cancellations that evening. But when some of my friends (and myself again) heard this 'fully booked' statement few times, and found out that there were tables available, I realized that there was a cheap PR trick at work...

Just to speculate: I am not a restaurant expert, but in a place like Çeşme, which has a high-season of only 3 months, some popular establishments simply want to turn their temporary popularity & trendiness into instant cash. Assuming that the Ferdi Baba branches at Çeşme Marina and Alaçatı are not Ferdi Baba's own properties, it is also safe to assume that Ferdi Baba pays a hefty rent for these 2 prime locations. Therefore, despite Ferdi Baba's high popularity and customer turnover, the owner(s) may be facing cash-flow difficulties because of rapid expansion and high rental coasts.

“Avoid at all costs.”
Reviewed July 18, 2014 via mobile

Just tried to get a table here. The manager, a thin unhappy and angry looking man, told the nice lady in Turkish to show us a bad side table and if we didn't like he didn't care. Unfortunately for him my wife is Turkish and understood every word. I wouldn't mind but we are well dressed and usually spend a lot because we like fine wine.

I protested that he had a lot of free tables by the water and that he had been rude. He just walked off.

We are now at Niyazi where the staff are lovely the food wonderful and the view lovely.

“Best food I've eaten in Turkey”
Reviewed May 28, 2014 via mobile

We were taken by Turkish friends to this restaurant and I was highly impressed. The mezze had the most variety and tastiest options I have had in Turkey. We had marinated sea bass , white cheese with cabbage and walnuts, smoked eggplant, olives and salad all were excellent and well seasoned not the sort of bland poached vegetables available elsewhere there were also lots of others that looked great and fresh.
The fish we had was cooked to perfection and this was beside the pleasure of sitting by the port at dusk, with friends watching the fish swimming next to you. The staff were also excellent the only downside was it was a bit pricey but overall excellent
