We needed a place to stay the night before the Brighton Marathon and only the week before rang the Duke of york which i had found by viewing Google Street View.
We were pleased to discover that there was room at the inn and we planned to make the most of the day by arriving early for lunch however we hit such bad traffic that it was almost 3pm when we arrived however we were warmly greeted by the staff member who was busy but acknowledged us.
We had a lovely snack lunch of Fish Finger Sarnies which came with salad and crisps washed down with a decent priced bottle of Sauvignon Blanc , actually the wine list was good.
They also serve a good variety of coffees which we enjoyed before a couple of hours rest in our room.
The room was a tad dated however it was very clean with an ensuite with complimentary toiletries and plenty of towels oh, and a bowl of boiled sweets in the room along with a large bottle of water and tea and coffee making facilities.
We went down to have dinner after 8pm to find it was fairly busy in fact it was a terrible rainiy night and not too many people were there just for a drink but it was clear that for dining it was popular as many seemed regulars.
There was a good menu with a specials board plus it was waitress service too.
As we were leaving before breakfast the next day they discounted this from our room tariff . i might also mention that i forgot to take my hairdryer but on asking, the staff took me to a chest of drawers on the landing that held a multitude of essentials , so that was a lifesaver for me .
It was only 10 minutes into Hassocks which has a station that is only two stops to Brighton and ample parking so all made for an easy stay.
