“Pub Food at High Prices”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 20, 2012

I reserved a table for four a few days before. Found on arrival that no table was allocated. Nonetheless, after a few minutes wait, we were shown to a comfortable table overlooking the garden.

On studying the menu the prices were what one would expect to pay in a good resturant and thus we were looking forward to a decent lunch of starters and main course. We were disappointed to say the least. The food was tasteless, straight out of the freezer and probably into the microwave.

If you are looking for 'value for money' and 'decent food' forget the Friars Oak. For £20 a head, including soft drinks and a beer, you can do a lot better than this place.

“Pleasantly surprised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 15, 2012

I was surprised at the Friars Oak. From the outside, I had a feeling it would be like one of those atmosphereless plastic chain pub / restaurants where the service was questionable and the food terrible, but I was wrong. The atmosphere was fine and the service very good indeed. OK, so I guess that the food was microwaived and lacking in some freshness, but it tasted just fine.

Haute Cuisine it's not, it doen't pretend to be, but it was considerably better than some of the pubs in the area that I've 'enjoyed' at in the past.

“Good quality food - lovely service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 10, 2012

There are certainly some mixed reviews of The Friars Oak ! I have eaten there twice in the last couple of weeks with friends of mixed ages, and have found it very good. It has a very pleasant garden to sit in with table service. The waiter and waitress that served us were both charming. the bar struggled a little bit with lack of staff, but after a short wait we were dealt with efficiently.
Starters: Pate - gorgeous! Main course: salmon fishcakes - also gorgeous! I will certainly make this a regular pub to eat at.

“Don't eat here”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 31, 2012 via mobile

Made the mistake of going here last week, always heard such good things, although the warning bells were ringing in my head when a friend said " we had a quick meal there the other day, cauliflower cheese, still frozen"
Had an awful over cooked chicken dish, friends had curry of the day (good) and burger and fries...
Please, you are a restaurant, DO NOT SERVE OVEN FRIES !!
This is the first bad review I have given, I don't know what has happened here, has it changed hands??? New management ??? Something has happened as I'm told it use to be good, you can tell its gone downhill as the car park is empty...
Please go back to cooking good value fresh products, we do not want microwave operators cooking food !!
