Lakeside offers an amazingly beautiful place to stay, with very comfortable accommodation, excellent food, courteous and efficient staff, charming and helpful hosts, and very interesting surrounding countryside. It has the added advantage that the very high levels of cleanliness result in the food and water being totally safe (rarely the case in India) and the high quality swimming pool being safe as well. There are many possible activities, including cycling to the little local village of Athoor, seeing the fantastic temple at Madurai, and numerous local excursions with the hosts (a village potter, sari weaver, coconut processing plant, the nearby Palani Hills and many others). A walk to the local temple or round the lake are also delightful.

It is clean for starters. Not a huge dam. Maybe an hour's outing after breakfast. Its especially good after the rains. If you look up you can see mountains spewing mist and the overall effect is magical.

We walked the 5-7 km around Kamarajar Lake, from Cardamom House (Athoor village, Dindigul district), on 27-29 Aug 2012. We saw a lot of water birds--Purple Heron, Grey Heron, Red Wattle Lapling, Grebe, Cormorants, assorted ducks, as also other birds, such as kingfishers, swallows, peacocks, mourning doves, bulbuls. The lake is a bit dirty near the Mariamman temple, what with pilgrims throwing plastic bottles and other garbage on the ground.
