Reviewed December 4, 2013

Our stay at Lakeside was just perfect!
The views were spectacular especially when having breakfast on the veranda.
The hosts were extremely kind and helpful and went to great extremes to make our stay so memorable. The trips and tours they organised for us to outlying areas and to Kerala were superb and we were able to savour the real life of the area.
The support staff were also excellent and could not have been bettered.
The facilities AC room in main house, pool, meal venues, TV lounge, library, transport etc were all excellent.
The whole experience made our first trip to India so enjoyable that we really hope we can return.
We would certainly recommend the venue to anyone who wants a lovely tranquil stay in beautiful surroundings. Thank you for a wonderful stay Dorinda and Peter.

Thank you Vivien, I can quite honestly say that we enjoyed your visit just as much as you did! We are so glad that you enjoyed your short 'side-trip' to Kerala, especially the elephant experience; we will certainly be happy to help you organise other trips should you return to Lakeside.

If I had to rate the most spectacular view when you check-in to a property, Lakeside would win my vote hands down. The view of the bougainvilleas in full bloom and the lake beyond is breath-taking.

The main bungalow with its library, TV lounge, area to have your meals has four rooms (2 air-conditioned) with a magnificent views of the lake. The rooms are ample in size although smaller than those of the individual cottages. The six individual cottages are spread around the resort and are very spacious with an extra bed for the third person (2 air-conditioned). You also have the option to choose air-conditioning just for the night ( 8pm to 8am)- Ideal if you are a budget traveler but still like your comforts. I spend the afternoons in my room reading with just the fan on and it was quite comfortable. Between November-March I would say having air-conditioning just for the night is an option worth looking at. Did I mention they also have a heavenly pool.

Dorinda is the face of guest relationship while Pete is the handyman :) , always up and about working on something or other. All the cottages have been renovated by Pete himself. They have a big dog who is absolutely adorable. For a small fee Dorinda takes the guest around for a Village Tour. I would highly recommend that you go on this tour with her which without giving too much away is very interesting and the highlight of the stay. In the morning walking along the lakeside makes for a pleasant excursion. There are bicycles as well, if that is how you would prefer to explore the nearby village and the countryside.

Lakeside Guest House is the perfect end to a hectic trip before you fly back home. I would love to go back again.

Room Tip: For the view book rooms in the main bungalow.

... and I say this despite I got more ill here than ever in my life. That should say a lot.

Something just clicks at Lakeside. I guess it's the owners' strong vision and personal capability to make that true. Service is perfect -- forget pushy aggressive Indian service. Here the staff is personal and discreet at the same time. The garden is beautiful. There's also an endless amount of interesting animals and critters to wonder. You are far away from the mess and chaos of the cities. This place is so harmonious.

When I got very ill I was supported at every turn and I recovered fast. Thank you for that! And afterwards I got the best pizza I ever ate in India! :)

As all the other reviewers, I also strongly recommend this place. It's flawless.

Room Tip: We chose a non-a/c room at the main house and we were not disappointed. It's nice to hang out at...

Thank you so much for your kind review. But please let me tell readers from the outset - it wasn't our food that made you ill but some 'bug' that arrived at Lakeside with you! We were more than happy to help you out - not many can return home after a holiday to India and say that they have visited a clean, well run and safe hospital run by Catholic nursing sisters!

We have worked hard at training our staff to European standards, it is good to know that their skills are appreciated. I have read your review to them and they have been walking around with big smiles for the whole day - thank you so much!

We hope that you enjoy the rest of your trip to India!

What a lovely spot! We visited the lakeside guesthouse as a weekend break during a volunteering project in Madurai. It was a bit of a drive out of town, but this only added to the feeling of escape from the madness of the city. The setting alone makes you want to wind down with a book overlooking the lake, which wasn't full due to the time of year, but must be spectacular after the rains. The staff were polite and courteous and we enjoyed hearty European food on the roof which we requested as a break from our otherwise entirely Indian diet. Peter hosted us on a guided tour of the lake one morning and we enjoyed a dip in the crystal clear pool in the afternoon. The rooms were comfortable, clean and modern. I would certainly recommend a stay to anyone travelling to Tamil Nadu looking for a place to relax and would be perfect for couples or groups of friends.

I stayed here in the middle of a two week trip doing charity work in Madurai. Pete and Dorinda looked after us amazingly, the rooms and food were lovely, and the pool was bliss! I only wish we could have stayed for longer.

After 7 weeks of travel with 2 children 10 and 12 in amazing India, Lakeside is one of the major highlights. Dorinda and Pete and their staff have created some amazing frames in the beautiful scenery. We felt really well treated and the people and service were fantastic. Pure vacation and relaxation and quiet and peaceful surroundings. Do not go past the Lakeside Guest House. 1 night is not enough!!

Thank you Katrine. We very much enjoyed meeting you and your lovely children, we only regret not having the time to get to know you better.
We hope that the rest of your trip went well and that the children continued to enjoy and absorb all the new sights and experiences of India - we hope they realise just how lucky they are to have such a wonderful opportunity at their age!
Best wishes to you all

We were very lucky to be able to travel extensively in Kerala and Tamil Nadu for six weeks in January/February 2013. One of the many highlights of our trip was our stay at Lakeside. We were there for 8 nights.

We wanted somewhere to wind down a bit before returning to the UK. Somewhere quiet and relaxing after the noise and chaos of the cities we stayed in, in an attractive setting and with good food and comfortable beds, but not too far away from the “noise and chaos” that we actually quite enjoy. To say that Lakeside fulfilled all those requirements would be an understatement, because it exceeded them in every way.

Take it for granted that Lakeside is a beautiful residence in beautiful surroundings. You can see this from their website, but that doesn’t prepare you for exactly how lovely this place is. We stayed in one of the cottages, which are banked away from the main building so that everyone has a view of the lake and the hills beyond. This view is truly stunning, not least because the grounds are well landscaped and the buildings tastefully and sympathetically designed and unobtrusive. The gardens are full of colour, and there are plenty of mature trees, especially around the swimming pool, which is a very decent size.

The cottage we stayed in had more than enough space for two messy people; there were two high-powered but very quiet ceiling fans to keep us cool and – at last! – a shower with instant and powerful hot water! And our own balcony to sit on and admire the view from.
During our stay we did go and have a look at the other places to stay in this area. Let’s just say that we were delighted to have made the right decision!

It’s a short walk to the lake, which you can then go round on foot in about an hour and a half. The birdlife here is worth a trip for no other reason. Up the road – about 10 minutes’ walk away – is a shady area where the local people get together for religious and social occasions, one of which we were lucky enough to get slightly involved in!

The owners of Lakeside, Dorinda and Pete, are charming, as are the manager, Kennedy, and the rest of their staff. The food is delicious and unpretentious South Indian cuisine; the breakfast masala omelette is unmissable and the early evening drink on the roof terrace is a lovely social occasion.

We are quite seasoned travellers and have stayed in many places, good, bad and indifferent, throughout the world. Lakeside is up there in our top ten, and we would thoroughly recommend it to anyone wanting to spend some time in this lovely part of India.
