My stay at Double Dutch Resorts was noting short of incredible. I felt so at home and at ease in this beautiful place! Ge and Gemma, the owners and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly, just like a big family. I will never forget all the good memories in this place!

Double Dutch is a quiet weekend getaway from Madurai/Coimbatore/Tirupur/Erode. Close to the catchment areas and hills around Sembatti. Quiet and away from the cell phone and blackberry and the noise of the city, good spot for kids to take some treks around the lake and the hills.
The host is very friendly and joins in the morning walks, bird feeding and meal times.

The food could definitely be better - especially for vegetarian choice though the staff are very helpful.
Recommend going there between Jun-Feb. The other times hover between hot/hotter/hottest.

Room Tip: Go during Jun-Feb

After some busy places (as there are a lot in India) we found this address via trip-advisor, an oasis of silence. One telephone call for a reservation was enough. Already on the road towards the resort you'll see how tranquil the surrounding is.
The staff is very friendly, helpful and makes you feel comfortable from the first moment. The owners, Gemma and Ge, two Dutchies, are really nice. Beside of the hotel they coordinate some charity projects in the neighborhood.
You can have your meals there, the cooking is excellent. Indian, Indonesian, European style, all possible. The rooms are spacey and clean.
The lake is clean and warm enough to swim, the surrounding invites you for some good walks. The neighboring village Athoor (6 km) is a nice place to roam around and meet friendly local people, in the small city Dindigul (1 hour by taxi) you'll most probably be the only foreigner, enjoying a nice busy center (don't forget to climb the fort on the hill!)
We planned to stay 3 nights, but already on first day we changed our plans and stayed for 7 days. And sure, the next time we'll visit South India, we'll come again!

This is how I felt about your wonderful place.
Like many good times, this too began very innocuously.
Some of us from our class in IIMC were meeting up in Kodaikanal and three of us had planned to drive from Bangalore, a nine hour drive.
Good sense provoked consideration for our advanced years and we decided to do the trip in two stages.

Cad, one of the Bangaloreans asked me to search for homestays about three hours drive from Kodai.
Several were found, some with exotic names and prices to match and all appeared to be clustered around the Kamaraj Lake near Dindigul, a district town.
Us Calcuttans know that no place outside Calcutta in our glorious state have any facilities worth anything. This is not the case with any of the Southern states. But this is merely an aside.

I focussed on a home stay quaintly named the Double Dutch Resort, humour being seriously unintended. The photos looked good, the prices reasonable and an email was sent out requesting the necessary booking.
The reply arrived soon enough, with a query: Are we vegetarians? Would we like Indian or Continental cuisine for dinner?
This was where we started getting a bit excited. I called the man and asked if they could possibly provide an Indonesian-Dutch meal. The response was effusive.
And so we went, armed with suitable libations for all concerned.

The place is a 20-25 minute drive off the Dindigul-Madurai highway, nestled between low hills and the aforementioned lake. Wildly overgrown, it has a very rustic charm. The facilities would qualify as mod cons anywhere. By the lakeside, there are folding chairs and tables and a stout hammock. Hameen ast woh hameen ast.
As the sun set, we started the evening proceedings, us on whisky and the hosts on rec wine which we had carried with us.
Very interesting folks. We chatted for about two hours until dinner could not be put off any longer. Wonderful dinner too, just as ordered.

Over dinner, Gemma, our friendly voluble hostess asked us what we would like for breakfast-Indian or Continental. By now, we were wiser and asked what constituted a Continental breakfast in her establishment. “Oh, homemade bread, homemade butter, homemade cheese, a few homemade preserves and eggs if you want”, says Gemma.
“Ask no more”, say us.

The prices, as we settled the bill next morning was even more pleasant. Rs. 2000 per head inclusive of hefty tips.
We spent another night there on the way back as well.

My email on my return says it all!!!

Hi Gemma and Ge

First, apologies for this late mail – got caught up in things on my return, was down with a back problem for a couple of days ... just excuses!!

Wanted to say – we ABSOLUTELY loved our 2 days there! Why?

Well, firstly it is a beautiful place! It is quite, so close to nature, idyllic, has all the comforts one could want...and, WONDERFUL food! Both the Dutch – Indonesian dinners (gorgeous!) and the breakfasts of home made breads, jams, butter and cheese (super-gorgeous!!).

Secondly, the sheer warmth of the people! Gemma and Ge, in just a couple of days, we managed to become friends! Hugely enjoyed the evenings, drinking and chatting (lovely conversations!) in oh-so-good surroundings. All the staff, full of grace. And, I cannot forget Jessica – that absolutely charming and adorable little lady, she is just most adorable!!

Thanks a ton for everything, it was so lovely getting to know you. For sure I will come again – as may people Iam recommending you to! Whenever you are coming to Bangalore – you must let me know in advance, and have an evening with us.

Best wishes, Merry Christmas!!
