“The Shed nearby; accused of theft!”
Reviewed May 12, 2012

Although not particulalry relevant to Pensiula Cottages, am aware that The Shed pub/restaurant is closeby, and wished to tell of my experience.

For our christmas meal, a group of about ten to us went there; we bought drinks and ordered food in from local takeaways (this is a good thing they offer for visitors).

However, it was clear this was a place for locals. We were not, we were given odd glances/frowns/whisperings about us all evening by the bar woman and two (I presume locals by the bar) and some what looked like underage teenage boys. However, we did not let this deter the evening. We finished and walked out.

However, less than five minutes later, we had a phonecall. It was the woman from behind the bar! She went straight in and said 'I know you've taken them!' We said 'Taken what?' She said 'The Christmas trees!' (these were decorations made of tinsel on the table; worth about 50p!). We told her we had not taken them. She then said we would have to go see her at once, or 'there will be big trouble'. Already this was embarrassing enough and we could have not gone back, but we did, to tell her we had not done it. As soon as we got there she said 'Go, on hand them here'. My friend emptied out and went through the rubbish bin (!) spent fifteen minutes persuading her we had not taken them, she claimed we could not trust our friend, and even gave her opinion on who she thought had stolen them out of the group! We were finally let go, her extrememely angry, and unwliing to accept we had not taken them. She even rang her manager, and said 'No, i won't let this happen again' while looking at us.

The next morning, she rang again, and said she had found the tree! She did apologise at this point, but the damage was done (we were not offered vouchers or anything)

Such a humiliating experience. Could not believe it. It is a good job we are calm , rational people. If she had experienced the wrath of an unpleasant character, it would not have ended well.

So upset by the whole thing.
