“Popular with Walkers and Locals”
Reviewed October 11, 2013

No sandwiches served but their other food was very good. Clientele average age was about 74 - mix of walkers and locals. Mine host was a bit severe on muddy walking boots but otherwise friendly; food servers were great.

“Highly recommend”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

Visited Rose Cottage for lunch this week with my husband and sister despite a couple of bad reviews. Weather good enough to sit outside and we all had something different from the lunch menu and each was delighted with our choice. The portions and quality of posh fish pie, steak and ale pie and vegetarian pancakes were excellent and obviously home made which included vegetables. Will definitely visit again soon.

“Don't go for the food”
Reviewed September 24, 2013

The staff are certainly friendly towards guests and were quite happy for us to sit with our dog inside where it is cosy, though we chose outside, but the pub is let down by even the simplest of food served.

Being a pub, we thought best to play safe and have a ploughmans lunch with a side dish of chips. This consisted of the most boring salad imaginable, tasteless ham and cheese that must come from a cash and carry outlet. The plate was half covered with huge chunks of tasteless bread, and the fried chips were cooked in old oil as you could smell it when you bit into the chip.

It doesn't take too much effort to improve upon the quality of the product or the presentation, which is why sadly so many pubs are closing down.

I would give this a miss until they get their kitchen in order, though I am sure very nice just for a glass of beer.

“Lovely food, good service, warm welcome”
Reviewed September 6, 2013

Our second visit to Rose Cottage. Our group of 4 had starters and main courses, all beautifully presented, fresh and tasty. The cooked dishes were hot, and delicious. Staff very welcoming, friendly and service was prompt. Bit of a wait for drinks at the bar, but not over-long. Very good value food for ££, pleasant dining room. Rose Cottage is one of the best places to eat in this area, and the friend we went with (who live locally) eat there often, and take other friends too. Best to book a table in summer months, it gets busy.
