“A special hotel”
Reviewed January 23, 2013

We stayed for two nights ( 21 and 22 Jan 2013 ) and thoroughly enjoyed our stay - even though it snowed almost continuously.

Our room was lovely, warm and cosy, nice bed, lovely bathroom. Very good breakfasts, and we were made to feel very welcome and comfortable by Alan and Mathew. Very cosy downstairs area for a beer while watching the snow falling.

We did not brave the hot tub, but others did, despite the snow. Wish I had tried it now!

Handy for visiting Bath ( parking in Bath is a bit of a pain, we took Alan's advice and used Park and Ride for the second day, much easier and more relaxing ) The free walking tour ( 2 hour ) of Bath was good ( even in a blizzard ), leaves outside the Pump Room at 1030 and 1400.

We ate at the George in Norton St Philip, good food and an amazing old pub about 5 mins drive away.

Only stayed for a night, but we were made to feel very welcome (it has a very homely feel). We had our 15 year old daughter and 10 year old son with us, they too felt very relaxed and felt they were at home. Mathew and Alan are excellent hosts, from the moment we walked in the door until we left they were faultless, true proffessionals who know how to run a hotel efficiently.
The hotel is clean, the bar is well stocked we a decent enough selection of drinks and the breakfast was very nice too. The bedrooms are clean and comfortable, this really is a nice little hotel.

Just one night in this lovely location but what a comfortable luxurious night it was. We were given the room as a wedding present so spent the day in Bath exploring the shopping centre and generally wandering round viewing the sites. January tends to be dull, damp and chilly Wednesday 2nd January 2013 was no expception... so we arrived at the Bath Castle Hotel around 3pm to be greated and welcomed by Alan. he showed and explained the facilities and showed us to our room.. a very pleasent annexe room at the back of the hotel. Away from the main A36, so road noise was minimal. The room was extremely comfortable and well furnished and the wet room was equally sumptious. Meals at the hotel need to be booked at least a week in advance so we were advised tovisit the George in Norton St Phillip (a very short drive away)... that too is a lovely place to eat. After a great nights sleep we were treated to a very well cooked and tasty breakfast which set us up well for the day ahead.

An excellent hotel which I recommend.

There is not much that we can add to the reviews on here....we had a fabulous stay, with Mathew and Alan being great hosts. Just a perfect stay and although it is close to the road we didn't notice any noise. If you get the chance go..

Room Tip: Our room faced the rear of the property which was quiet and had a lovely view

Just got back from a 2 day trip to bath. We pulled up to the castle and it's got the wow factor from outside! What makes this place more special is how welcome we were made to feel! The lodge is owned by a company who buy up unique buildings and hire them out entirely for parties etc or have paying guests as a normal hotel. When we stayed the mainstay hosts were away on holiday and so we were treated with Barry as our host. What a friendly and helpful guy, he gave us tips on local pubs and all that jazz and cooked up a cracking breakfast in the morning!
We stayed in the room with a balcony and it was great, really felt like it was a taste of how it might feel being in a castle (although on a smaller scale)!
Lovely grounds, easy to find and not too far away from bath itself. I'd recommend going to the George pub about a mile or so away as it's full of charm and character - we had our dinner in the dungeon.
Overall it did the job for us and i'd go back again without hesitation.

We stayed in this hotel for 2 nights in September. The service was excellent throughout our stay and the breakfasts were fantastic.

The location is great for visiting Bath and Longleat. The man who runs the hotel recommended a very good pub round the corner from the hotel which served lovely food.

Very happy to have found this place on celticcastles.com. The building itself is the centuries-old gatehouse of a nearby castle, and is handily located just 6 miles from Bath. The rooms are cozy, warm and well appointed, bathroom toiletries are top notch, beds are comfortable and the breakfasts were fantastic - we had delicious hot English breakfast both mornings we were there, which fueled us up for full days of exploring. The property also has a hot spa on its grounds, which we didn't use (too rainy and cold, although more intrepid guests tried it out and enjoyed it). Alan is the soul of hospitality and looked after us well for the 2 nights we stayed there.
The FREE 10:30am walking tour in downtown Bath is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED - it's a 2 hour walk through historic Bath with knowledgeable volunteer guides.
Stonehenge is nearby - another highly recommended visit.
The George Inn is a 5 min drive from Bath Lodge Castle in Norton St Philip - great lunch/dinner menu and great atmosphere housed in a historic 800 year old building.
The Globe is another great dinner place on the way to Bath with venison and wild boar on the menu and fireplaces in the dining areas.

Room Tip: One room is in the tower - ask for it but be warned: it's the most popular one. The "Stirli...
