“This is a great lodge!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 27, 2014

I was there for one night while walking the Kumano Kodo. This is a new, very nice lodge. The rooms have wonderful terraces, and if you arrive early in the afternoon you can sit on your private terrace, enjoy the evening sun, drink a beer and watch the stunning panorama over the valley and the mountains. The (shared) o-furo (bathrooms with hot bath tub) are also very good. Strongly recommended!

Room Tip: I think all the rooms are similar - all have a great terrace. You can decide between Japanese and We...

After a tiring uphillpp ptrek to this inn I was welcomed by great staff, great food, lovely room, and beautiful views. Definitely a place to stay. I generally only review on trip advisor if the place Was great or horrible. This place gets full marks for being great. And the owner is really a delight and speaks good English and is extremely helpful. The food was a fabulous experience of local Japanese foods from locally grown veggies. Would love to stay there again.

Room Tip: Western style is good for those sore hiking knees

My husband and I were both very delighted with our stay at the 霧の郷 たかはら.

It was such a wonderful experience and the meals were fantastic.

Let's start with booking, I found it was a little interesting if you book on their official website and other website, the prices are different. If you can book with Japanese, it is the cheapest booking on their official website.

The direction to this place is not easiest to get. We drove from Kyoto to Wakayama. From Asago Hwy, turn east when you reach 中辺路行政局 Nakahechi administrative station, and there is only way to the hotel.

The facility was great. The bathroom is well equipped with an onsen bathtub. The room was very nice as well. The dining room was a very comfy place.

The view from the room was breathtaking. We took a lot of photos from the room in the morning. It was a wonderful place to stay.

We enjoyed the dinner. When you arrived, you will be asked when you would like your dinner and the seating time for breakfast. I was too full and couldn't finish all the courses. The staff are very nice and helpful. We highly recommend this place to anyone who visits Kumano Kodo to stay here.

We had an absolutely wonderful stay! We wanted to take 3 days off from our busy Japanese trips of visiting cities, and we were so happy with out choice. The location is up in the mountains of the central Wakayama prefecture, in a secluded quaint village. John was super helpful with directions to the hotel, via phone before our trip. He picked us up in Takijiri and drove us to the hotel, ready to help with anything. He gave us a ride back to Takijiri the next day, so we were able to do the 2 1/2 hour hike back up to the ryokan, enjoy some afternoon tea, then onsen, then dinner and then onsen again before an amazing night sleep... :) The food was all organic and incredible! The best food that we had in our whole Japan trip. The onsen had water brought in from Yunomine and was great. We couldn't have had a better stay. Service, food, value sleep, atmosphere, memories...

We stayed at Kiri no Sato for our first night of our Kumano Kodo walk and it was the best stay of the walk. The food was wonderful and the room was nice with attached toilet. The shared baths are nice and warm and it was great to take a bath after our first day of hiking. It is obvious that the owner really cares about his food and the service he provides. I would strongly recommend staying there if you are going on the hike.

I started my short trek from Takiriji - Takahara (took 1.15hrs, I had to walk fast due to sun going down and didn't want to get stuck up in the mountain when it was getting dark). I had the western style room and it was wonderful. Amazing view from your own room and the Onsen was perfect way to end up your day. The dinner was absolutely delicious as we as the breakfast, part of the package was also lunch box incl which was perfect. I would recommend this hotel to anyone, a nice way to start the Kumano Kodo trek.

Room Tip: Beautiful place to stay!

This is a lovely place to stay. Small enough to be personal and yet big enough to meet some other walkers. The rooms have magnificent views across the valley, the bath was large and very well laid out, the food was special (fresh and delicious). It all made for a great stay.
