An exclusive driveway up the resort will give you an idea this is no ordinary inn. The grounds are fairly large, with a large children's waterslide playground to one side, although it looks disused or else is out of operation in winter.

The hotel's reception area, lobby and restaurant is pretty luxe, although the rooms themselves are quite spartanly decorated (at least the Japanese style room I stayed in). The rooms have a pretty view of the mountains. There are 2 decent onsens in the hotel, as well as a small gym corner. There was no WiFi in the rooms however, only in the common areas.

The highlight of the hotel however is its restaurant. As the hotel caters to weddings and events, as well as external restaurant guests, note that yukatas cannot be worn in the lobby area or to the restaurant unlike at ryokans. The restaurant is semi-formal, serving a delicious western-Japanese fusion cuisine that uses seasonal local organic ingredients. Service in the restaurant was also top notch.

When we went in winter we and one other family seemed to be the only ones in the hotel, pity. Imari (and Arita) are small towns not quite on the tourist track, and the Forest Inn is located some ways away from the centre of Imari town.
