I should really give this hotel two or three stars due to it's age, but because it happened to be the only hotel in the middle of nowhere, and thereby saved us, it deserves four stars.
There is no sign by the road that tells you that this is a hotel. The sign actually says Hiruzen Kogen, which actually refers to a different place that has nothing to do with this hotel, but for some reason the sign had to be placed in front of this hotel.
The outside of this hotel is beautiful and enticing. Once you enter it loses some of it's appeal. Once you enter your room, you'll just about lose your mind.
It cost us about 16,000 yen to stay here (it was about 7,500 yen per person). The room is old, the furnishings are old, and so is everything else for that matter. Other than being outdated, the room itself is actually clean--the carpet, the sheets, and the bathroom. The shower curtains, however, were very moldy and seriously needs to be replaced.
The bed is comfortable and so are the pillows. The room was nice and warm so we slept with the balcony sliding door open all night, it was cold, but it was incredible. The sunrise came up right over the mountains on the horizon which was absolutely amazing and stunningly beautiful. The complimentary breakfast was also incredible--fresh eggs, bread, fresh yogurt, fresh milk, sausage, miso soup, rice, coffee, and salad (see photo). We would've paid at least 1,200 yen for this at another hotel. Here, it was free.
The people at the hotel spoke no English but they were kind and courteous. We found the hotel and booked it because we were on someone's farm trying to find cows.
Beautiful place, but you'll be completely lost without a translator.
