Max and Hiro are great hosts in this comfortable Uno home.
I stayed in 2 of the 3 quiet, charming comfortable tatami guest rooms of Max's family home.
Since Max and Hiro grew up in Uno they were great help in suggesting places to eat and see and organizing transportation. Max's suggestions - the new Onsen in town, where to catch which ferries, how to find a supermarket were very helpful. It is an easy 12 minute walk to JR station or Ferry docks to the Islands or Takamatsu. Max has loaner bikes; Uno town is mainly flat.
The area is so lovely and interesting I prolonged my stay to 4 nights.
As well as Naoshima and Teshima I used Uno as my base to visit the Otsuka Museum (6 km of fabulous ceramic board colour reproductions of some of the worlds greatest art. Where else on earth can you see life-size reproductions of the Sistine and Scrovegni chapels, as well as Rublev's Trinity from the Tretyakov and thousands of other masterpieces and be guided by 1.5 m high blue and white talking robots?) in Naruto and also Takamatsu and the magnificent Seto-Otashi bridge a fixed-link connecting Shikoko with the rest of Japan..
Since Benesse House Hotel on Naoshima starts around 320USD a night, Max's place is an
affordable and pleasant alternative. Recommended.More
