The large scale onsen hotel were far from major shopping streets in Yufuin, but u can certainly enjoy peaceful country side & mountain views. Free shuttle bus provided to/from JR Yufuin station. Public phone at the station cost only 10 Yen. Staff don’t speak English well, although everything comes with clear English instructions/guides. We were interested in the bicycle rental but decided to give up because of spoken language issue. They did pay attention to our room request and assigned a high floor room to us. Decor wasn’t fantastic. They put a TV on the tokonoma (alcove) where typically only Japanese flowers or scroll were decorated. Safe, electric points, yukata, tea making facilities were available. Tatami was clean & appeared quite new compared to others we’ve stayed. In-room bathroom was big in Japanese standard! All amenities provided in room too. Onsen was adequate with the usual amenities. Especially love the outdoor milky color hot bath! There’s a super small garden & foot bath within the hotel compound if u r bored of the room. Staff kept a distance when meeting foreigners. Generally, considered helpful when u asked for information. Looks like a few restaurants & museum were within walking distance but it was almost like a dead town near evening time. What impress us were the Kaiseki dinner (with bungo wagyu beef) & Japanese breakfast. Compared to a few Ryokans that we’ve stayed, the food here were really outstanding! We rated the hotel location, service & facilities 3star, but added 1more star for the 2 fabulous meal! If u book this hotel, do consider full board to get the full Japanese experience.

Hotel is big and with good facilities and onsen. However, the rooms are a bit dated. A 8 minutes drive to the shopping street.
There is a shuttle bus to and from Yufuin Station. Breakfast is simple and good.

Although this hotel is dated, it seems that they take a "part by part" approach for renovation. The sleeping (tatami) area in our large room is new, while the carpet, chairs and even door knob are shabby.
A 10 minutes walk distance from the central of Yufuin makes it a quiet area. They provide shuttle bus to and from Yufuin station.
Service in restaurant is good. But during breakfast, we were told that coffee was served in the other restaurant. Although it is free, we will need to walk across the lobby to get it.

Getting out from the city and landing to countryside is what this Roykan represents. It was a bull's eye for us. Lovely rooms with tatami, splendid little hot spring and location a bit off from village center. Pittoresque view's and good walking/hiking surroundings. Friendly staff that guides around the area.

Far, 20 minutes walk, to shopping street.
Carpet and chairs in the room stained / filthy. Shock to see more stain when move the coffee table (in the room).
Scenery outside windows is pretty.
10 minutes walk to supermarket. No street light at night at certain streets. Please bring tourch light or mobile phone with tourch light apps at night.
