If you will be ever thinking about driving along the Sea of Japan in Western Japan, northern Kyoto prefecture is quite attractive with places like Amanohashidate, the Tango-hanto Peninsula and Kinosaki-Onsen hot spring resort. The Jukaitei Inn is at the western edge of the Tango-hanto Peninsula in a village called Taiza (or more precisely in the Tango-cho district of Kyotango City). You can drive from the Amanohashidate region along the sea coast with several nice stops before arriving at Taiza and the Jukaitei Inn.
This is a small in with less than ten rooms. But they are meticulously maintained and clean all over. As it is on a hilly spot, it commands a great view of the Sea of Japan. The dinner is naturally seafood-based from the local sources. It was great. During the winter time, it is also known for great crab meals.
With the recent renovations, they brought in western-style beds to some rooms. It was an important factor for us.
Finding this place is tricky as there aren't many super-visible signs.More
