this is a great ryokan. everything you expect. but note it's quite far from kumamoto. Luckily we hired a car and drove from Fukuoka (as we were doing road trip around kyushu island) . but if we didn't drive a car, not sure how we would get here.
The Onsen is a must try. We stayed in April 2018 and it was about 10 degrees celsius outdoor and the onsen was perfect for the weather. There was outdoor private onsen which you can pay 1200 yen for 50 minutes use. or the public one which was very nice.
We recommend guests to eat in the ryokan for breakfast and dinner, as i am not sure where else you would eat as the location is very secluded.
Also check out was at 10am, so we booked 2 nights instead in order to check out late, maybe around 2pm.
Also bring your own pillow as they give you pillow stuffed with beads inside, which wasn't very comfortable to sleep on. i woke up about 3 times during the night because of the pillow which we are not used to. The hotel should allow guests to choose conventional pillow and the bead filled japanese pillow. Overall, i won't stay here again, but it was great place to try the ryokan experience. the Onsen and the food was worth it.

This place have a indoor and outdoor onsen. You can choose temperature that you want. The onsen open 6am-9am and 6pm-12pm. In 6am and 11pm you can use the onsen like a private onsen because noone is coming!!! It very relax and fresh. However the breakfast is japanese food buffet!!! All you can eat!!! Staffs are very kind and survice mind. Wish to go back again.

From check-in to check-out, we enjoyed the two days spent at this traditional ryokan. Pluses were the outdoor onsen, excellent breakfast and dinners, comfortable Japanese-style rooms, and accommodating staff. Minuses were few: language barrier in communicating with front desk, but not any more difficult than at other tourist spots in the area. Front desk went out of their way to create gift certificates for us to give to friends in the area.

We checked into the ryokan about 630pm into one of the Japanese styled rooms on the 2nd floor. The room was not very large. Just enough for the 2 beds.

There were the larger family rooms that had an integrated onsen.

Meals were allocated by timing due to the limited tables. Dinner was a mini keseki meal and was enjoyable. The same was said for breakfast. They were traditional Japanese meals with no western offerings.

We also booked the family outdoor onsen for 1 hour for 1200yen. It was a nice outdoor onsen. We had a quick look at the public outdoor onsen And it looked pretty nice as well and there was nobody in there when I went in.

My only slight complaint was the pillow. It was the traditional pillow, very small unlike the fluffy pillows I am used to. Took me quite a while to fall asleep with that.

The location was pretty far from Kumamoto castle. About 25km. So you would need a car to get there.

Overall, an enjoyable experience in a small boutique ryokan. Wish they only had more comfy pillows.

Fantastic, newly renovated Onsen Hotel. Our room was the Deluxe room. Perfect for our family of five. Although there is an onsen in our room, we didn't need to use it as the outdoor large onsen and the private family onsen for rental were very very nice. We stayed here after our visit to Greenland the Amusement park. It's about 20 minutes drive from the park. Staff is friendly, and very attentive. Food for dinner and breakfast was delicious. Great value for the price we paid. We stayed in the Deluxe Room with Japanese onsen bath.
