Our first Ryokan. We had another much better experience in Yufuin, but it was 10,000Y more expensive.
The lady owner/manager was very pleasant and organised and was sure to welcome and send off every guest. The staff were very nice. The lady at reception had a translator on the phone to answer a couple of queries.
The onsen was indoors and led into an outdoor pool which I suppose could be called the rotenburo. All good spaces with the traditional equipment.
The room was pleasant. They only have one room with a western bed, but we came for the tatami experience which was pretty comfortable, although we had 2 levels of mattress. I tried with just one to start at Yufuin and it was not going to work!
Generally the hotel was a bit tired. The bathrooms were of an age when modernization is due.
The dinner and breakfast were nice, held in a large room which gets partitioned in the evening for different groups.More
