We celebrated a birthday at Ciro in Akashi in August 2011. The food and service were superb. It was decent value for Italian in Japan coming to about 3000-3500 yen per person including sangria. We sat at the back of the restaurant near the glass fridge they use to display their antipasto and we couldn't help ourselves. The antipasto selection was really good. We also ordered a pizza (buffalo mozzarella margerita) and pasta to share. The pizza was cooked perfectly in the wood fired oven. A lot of Pizza places in Japan often over sauce their pizza bases, but this wasn't the case at Ciro. However, the pasta was not so memorable. Finally, the peach Sangria was forgettable, I'd recommend sticking to bottles or glasses of wine.
The service was fantastic. But, I don't know if the staff speak English as we ordered in Japanese. Also, I'd also make two more recommendations
1. Asking for a table towards the front of the restaurant to take advantage of the view of the Akashi bridge.
2. Definitely making a reservation for dinner on the weekends.
