Mercure Lisboa Almada
Ranked #1 of 1 Hotels in Almada
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed January 1, 2014

This hotel is located in Almada, across the river from Lisbon. I stayed here because of a business event in the city of Almada. I arrived quite early in the morning, well before the stated checkin time, and was grateful to have a room provided. The hotel is modern, with contemporary furnishings in the lobby and its adjoining bar and restaurant, and lounge areas. The room was on a higher floor, overlooking the main freeway which takes you to the Bridge of Lisbon. Nothing panoramic, although from some areas of the hotel, a rear view of the impressive Christo statue could be seen. While it did not seem to be in a tourist destination and quite far from the sights of Lisbon, it was used by tour companies, and the restaurant was crowded both mornings with busloads of senior tourists, whose behavior and manners in the restaurant could do with considerable improvement!! Perhaps it was their tour deadlines, but they were pushy, loud and disrespectful of other people. There is not much in the way of restaurants around the hotel that I could find on a short walk around, although there we a couple of small cafes in walking distance. You certainly will need to rely on your Portuguese business hosts to find nice restaurants, and there are several in the central area of Almada. This is not a hotel for tourists doing sightseeing in Lisbon, although it is accessible by tram.

Dear WorldTraveller08901,

Thank you very much for your review. We are very proud to know that you were happy with your stay in Lisboa Almada Hotel.
Regarding the restaurants around the Hotel, as you've correctly pointed there are several quality restaurants in Almada Center and there is also the Fórum Almada Shopping Centre, which is one of the biggest in the whole Europe with nearly 40 different restaurant options, and it's only 5 minutes away (it costs around 5€ by Taxi).
To best appreciate the sightseeing in Lisbon, one can catch the Tram (in front of the Hotel) and head to Cacilhas (5 minutes). From there the River Crossing is surely the best way to get to Lisbon, with magnificent views of many of the city's attractions. From there, the train and the subway are connected to everywhere around the city. We strongly recommend tourists taking a train to Belém where it's located the Torre de Belém, Padrão de Descobrimentos and the Mosteiro de Jerónimo or take the subway to Chiado, where you will find yourself in the heart of the historical part of Lisbon.

We are looking forward to welcoming you back in the near future.

Best Regards,
Soel S. Ibrahim

Alameda shopping mall is about 5 min away from the hotel. It costs euro 5.00 to get by taxi.

The sushi at the hotel restaurant is very fresh.

There is a supermarket next to the hotel.

Breakfast spread is average with the usual processed food such as ham and salami.

Overall, I am happy with this hotel.

I stayed here for 3 nights for business and it suited that well. Almada doesn't have the cafes, restaurants, and things to do that Lisbon does but it is a lot cheaper and closer to the location at which I was working. One thing to note that the cabs in Portugal are relatively inexpensive, at least cheaper than Bordeaux. We used the cabs to travel to Bario Alto as well as the plant that I was working in.

The hotel staff was friendly, spoke English well, and was attentive. The hotel restaurant is actually #1 ranked on TA under restaurants in Almada. The breakfast is good and complimentary, the bar is nice and has cheap drinks.

There are not a lot of restaurants around the hotel so I recommend taking a cab into LIsbon or down to the beach of Almada.

I would stay here again for the convenience and price. A major plus for business travelers would be that the Wifi is free and pretty fast. I think some people have complained about the walls being thin but I sleep with a noise machine so I didn't notice.

Room Tip: See if you can get on the 7th floor.

This new 7-story hotel is in a quiet area on the outskirts of Almada, across the river from Lisbon near the 25th of April Bridge. I stayed there because it was convenient to the university in Caparica where I was attending a conference, and also convenient to Lisbon -- thanks to a new tram line connecting Almada to ferries, trains, and points of interest.

My room had plenty of space and was in excellent condition. Furnishings were spare but entirely adequate, and the attractive price made the hotel a very good value overall. The breakfast in the hotel restaurant was ample and varied; free Wifi in my room worked fine.

Overall I can recommend this hotel for those who have business on the Almada side of the river, but want to cross into Lisbon occasionally. Train connections from the airport are complicated, but I found that a taxi did not take long and was reasonably priced (though you should ask your driver, as others at my conference reported higher prices).

This is a very good, clean, modern hotel, close to Lisbon (across the 25 de Abril Bridge in the municipality of Almada). We stayed one night for the Super Bock Super Rock 2013 concert weekend. The service, room (including a very comfortable bed and nice bathroom), bar, and breakfast was all very good. It was a great location for the concert venue (approx. 25 EUR taxi ride, split between 4 people) and then driving to the airport the next day (approx. 10-15 minute drive). Just note that getting to/from the hotel is a bit confusing, even with the “HOTEL” signs, due to one-way streets and roundabouts.

Hotel although small, looks relatively new and modern. Nice shower by Grohe. Rooms were not particular large but very clean. Breakfast area too small to accommodate large numbers of guests in hotel when we were there. May need to be expanded to serve everyone efficiently. Also had to queue for lifts while we were checking out. Would be better if WiFi was not chargeable.

Accommodation: The room was clean with comfortable bed & pillow. Clean bathroom with no complaint about it.

The drawback was the location and dining service:
The breakfast area was pretty small with unfriendly service staff and limited food choice. The service level was totally different from the hotel reception staff (who nice & helpful).

Location: There is quite a distance between the hotel & main city. As far as shopping is concerned, the nearest shopping mall- Almada Forum building can be viewed opposite the hotel. However, it is not within walking distance. (taxi costs about 5.80 from hotel) The mall closed at midnight with plenty of taxi outside the mall. There is a big supermarket with wide variety of grocery at ground floor level. For apparel, i prefer to shop at Vasco Da Gama than Almada Forum.
