Description: The "Farol" is a century-old restaurant, the oldest in Setubal and is known for good beer and good seafood, from their own aquariums. With a cozy atmosphere and a great ''Tejo'' river and Lisbon's view, it's a great place to be.The name "Farol" came from the lighthouse's existence in Cacilhas who once helped navigation of small boats, called "Cacilheiros".Cacilheiros are an easy transport to lots of people in Lisbon to the other side of the Tagus river. You can combine the great tour with the excelence to be able to lunch or dinner in Cacilhas and taste our fish or seafood.

This restaurant is 10 minutes from Cais de Sodre on the ferry and was recommended by people working at the guesthouse where we stayed. It is packed out mostly with locals who are mostly ordering seafood platters. They also sell other dishes and my husband enjoyed the fish. The quality of food is high and the service good, they have been doing this for years. There is a lovely tiled picture covering one wall.
Much better than eating in the city centre with all the other tourists. My only regret was not going a bit earlier and having a wander about, there is also a submarine and sailing ship nearby. You can walk to the Cristo Rei statue from here.

Just a short trip, by ferry, from Lisboa to this restaurant. As we got off the ferry the waiters served us with a chilled glass of beer before entering the eatery.
We had a seafood soup followed by clams, garlic prawns, fried calamari, monster crabs, and sea bass fish with salads and lots of cold white wine.
The finale was a nice mango type dessert with free flowing coffee.

While waiting for the ferry I got hungry so went there to get some proper seafood, and I was amazed! The prices there are the lowest I ever seen and quality is extraordinary! I had the seafood platter for 2, grilled sardines, desert, 3 bottles of wine and the bill was still less then 90 euro, considering the tax in portugal is 25%, I gave them tip of 25% even if it is not common in the southern europe, but that was great. If you are in Cacilhas, have a diner here.

As a suggestion, get the ferry from Lisbon to Cacilhas . The very first restaurant that you see when leaving the boat is Farol. Do not be tempted by any others go straight in. You will be confronted by enormous room full of bench table. In spite of it being packed, service was almost immediate, I have no idea how the waiter understood our order with all the noise, but he did. The reason for the noise? The most popular item on the menu is crab, when you order it it comes with a mallet, which you use to crack open some of the most succulent crab meat you will ever taste. It is a local establishment and is very popular for good reasons. When you have finished you can easily catch the ferry back to Lisbon and if you are lucky, like we were to catch the sunset. A fitting end to a great dining experience.
