“Holiday week 9-16 March”

Just returned from a great weeks skiing and thought I would post this review.Four of us stayed in rooms 28 & 29. The rooms were comfortable and the food excellent and prepared buffet style, therefore plenty to eat. We decided to go for the full 7 day area pass (220 Euro) and skied a different resort every day. You have to be pretty clued up on bus timetables to get the best benefit and not spend all your time travelling, and no rep to ask advice of.
Tourist Information in town were alot of help and you can reserve your place on the free bus to the glacier which runs on Tuesdays and Friday's an absolute must and superb although very cold at -18 when we went !
Hotel staff were all friendly and helpful and their inhouse ski hire great value and good quality making it hardly worth transporting your own skis.Hot tub and sauna were a real luxury after a full day on the slopes
Overall highly recommended

Just arrived back from this hotel, we read all the reviews before we went. Great hotel, it's well run by a local family, food was plentiful and good, rooms very comfortable, didn't hear any noise from the disco, spa was great after a days skiing etc. Couple of things to add, there was no rep on the bus to give advice about lift passes, hence we missed out on skiing on the glazier. (It would have cost us 45 euros for the day, and on principle i wasn't prepared to pay the extra) When we bought our area tickets at the Gotzens lift, we presumed this would cover the glazier also, had a rep been on the bus we would probably have been told this, so a word of advice book your tickets before you go with your tour operator, as you cannot book this at the Gotzens lift, however this may be possible to include if buying your tickets at Axam. Other tip is, turn right out of the hotel for your nearest 'late' opening shop, which is in the second petrol station just down from the church in the middle of Gotzens.

Room Tip: We had a room on the other side of the building to the disco and did not get disturbed, however the...

A very friendly atmosphere and the staff are always ready to help you. All staff seem to speak excellent English. A good base to make the most of the local skiing in Axamer Lizum, Gotzens and Mutters and to experience a real Austrian village. Locals use the bar which is a good thing but be warned, they all tend to smoke. Wide choice of food for breakfast and a very wide choice for the evening meal which is served buffet style. The meat is always excellent. At 12 minutes this hotel has just about the shortest transfer time to an airport anywhere in the Alps but don't think you will be troubled by aircraft because you won't be.

Room Tip: Rooms on the west side have balconies which make the most of the setting sun.

The Gotznerhof is a small, family-run hotel in Gotzens. The ski bus to Gotzens stops right outside the hotel, but getting back without a walk in ski boots needs planning (go past the hotel to Birgitz, cross the road then get the Innsbruck bus for one stop to the hotel).
The hotel is very clean, warm and comfortable. The bar is well stocked and reasonably priced. The food is typical of the region and is a self service buffet with plenty of quality and quantity. The family Ellinger are friendly and helpful.
The ski hire shop in the hotel is a god-send, and the owner is a treasure who takes the time to fit the kit properly.
The local slopes are adequate for most intermediate skiers with modern transit systems and some great bars and restaurant. Axamer Lizum is a 35 minute bus ride away and bigger, but with older transit systems. A free bus is available on Friday to get to the Stubai glacier area. Worth it on a good day just for the "wow" factor.
One of my best ski trips.

Room Tip: Go to the Klamm restaurant below the Gotzner bahn for lunch.

Visted Axamer in late Feb 2012. Stayed at the Gotzenerhof in Gotzens. Be warned the village is extremely quiet, with nothing to do in the evenings. However Innsbruck is only 10 mins in bus or taxi, and is well worth a visit to the old town.

The hotel is a little tired, but it's clean, the staff are very friendly and the food, considering the price, is an extremely good buffet, with the choice and quality of meat being very good whilst we were there. If you're a smoker, you'll love it, if you're a non smoker you'll hate it, as the bar is smoking, and being one of the few places open in the evenings atracts the locals who all seem to smoke and unfortunately the bar is next to the dining area and you will smell it.

Forget your swimming costumes in the "wellness" area, which is OK, as the Dutch and Germans certainly don't bother, so if you don't mind seeing a bit loose skin, you'll be alright!

Skiing -
There is a bus stop outsde the hotel, but this goes to the Gotzenerbahn lift and Muttereralm not to Axamer. For Axamer it's a 500m or so walk to the stop on the other side of the road, Transer to Axamer on the bus is 20 mins or so, and was a little hit and miss whilst we were there.

Skiing at Axameris fine for intermediates, and there is good off piste opportunity if the snow conditions are right, which they were when we were there.
The lift system shows it's age, and has not been improved much since they held the Olympics in 1976, but on the plus side there were very few queues. Prices are very good for on mountain and i'd recommend the restaurant at the top of the Black for views and food. If you're not confident to ski back down, you can return to the bottom in the 2 man chair.

There is talk of lift improvements, which will make a huge difference, especially if they go ahead with the link from Mutereralm to Axamer, at present you can only ski from Axamer to Mutters, not the other way. But the ski back and the final red into Gotzens going back is to be recommended.

If you're staying in Gotzens, my tip would be to get the bus to the GotzenerBahn gondola, take this up and ski down into Muttereralm, then get the bus from the bottom of this run to Axamer - you'll miss any rush, minimise walking, and have a guaranteed seat on the bus to Axamer.

Muttereralm is a small but very nice area and accessed from the GotzenerBahn lift. If the snow is good, which it was when we were there, there is a lovely long blue down to the bottom of the Mutters lift or the excellent red to the bottom of the GotzenerBahn. The mountain bars are good value and quality here too.

Things to do apart from skiing -
The only place I found in the village which did have charm, good apres food and was typically Austrian, was just below the GotzenerBahn lift - cross the footbridge and you'll see it, nice place to finish the day. The only draw back is if you have ski boots on, it either walk back to the lift and get the bus or have a 15 min walk back to the hotel.
The Alpe hotel bar, go to the Church and turn left, about 100m, is a nice elegant bar when it's open, but you may find you're the only people in there.

I stayed here with 3 friends for some snowboarding action on the slopes and was very impressed with it. All the staff are friendly, the rooms are clean and good sized with TVs and en suite showers and the beds are really comfortable! The buffet food is very good too, nice and plenty of it. There is a warm and welcoming bar downstairs with pleasant bar staff (especially Nadine, she was a good laugh). They hold a disco there every Saturday night but this doesnt really interfere with you (if you don't ewant it too) as its in the basement.
I would definately reccommend this to anyone.

A superb family hotel, the staff and the welcome are excellent.
The hotelier is always on hand and willing to give help or advice.
The food is a buffet in the evening and kept coming until even I was full - which after a days skiing takes some doing.
The furniture is getting a little dated but there was evidence of continual refurbishments throughout the hotel.
For a group or family holiday it was excellent.
