“Great Place for a "Mini-Vacation"”
Reviewed September 4, 2012

We stayed here with the kids for a mini-vacation for the last week of summer. The villiage is a great place to stay with activities for the kids, shops and restauarants, and a short drive to explore the caves and take the zip line.

The hotel itself is very nice and well kept. We have a one bedroom suite with full kitchen and den. The only complaint about the room is only a single "real bed", and the sofa beds are just what you would expect from a sofa bed; not really comfortable. You can get two and three bedroom suites, but the price becomes even higher that what I consider a steep price for only a single bedroom. Other small complaint is the charge for WIFI; why do expensive hotels change for this, but inexpensive properties rarely do?

Underground parking was free, which was nice. So all in all, a very nice place to stay, but as others have mentioned, quite expensive.

Dear ToSquareBob1,

Thank you for posting a review about your stay with us at Blue Mountain Resorts Limited and at the Mosaic hotel particularly. We are really happy to note that you enjoyed your stay and convenience of the Village and nearby attractions.

The Mosaic is our newest addition to the hotels available at the resort and is offered as a Boutique hotel with additional amenities beyond those offered at the other Village hotels and as such there is a price difference at this hotel. We are glad you enjoyed the room design and found it offered adequate space for your family. The pull-outs are as you have indicated; a great convenience but not ideal sleeping, they cannot measure up to the full support offered by a mattress and box spring.

We hope to see you back again very soon.

Regards,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Limited

Having stayed at the Westin three times over the past two years on mini-vacations for a few days, we were looking for something as an alternative in the Blue Mountain Village and chose the Mosiac since it is the newest condo hotel actually in the village without a walk or shuttle. Although the entire resort is only 10 years old, I was wary of reviews of the Grand Georgian and other two main village condos that are reporting wear and tear of rooms and furnishings. We enjoy staying in Westin's mainly for the consistency of furnishings, property and the Heavenly Bed. We found the Mosiac to be a good alternative and enjoyed the two night stay but missed the Heavenly Bed.

The location is at the far edge of the village buildings but still very central and at the edge of the pond located beside Seasons - it is far superior to the "off village" locations like the slopside condos, sierra homes, rivergrass homes, mountain condos etc.

Check-in was quick and pleasant and liked the fact that you didn't have to use the centralized checkin for the three main village condos since Mosiac has it's own check-in at the condo lobby. Enjoyed the free underground parking (where the Westin charges $15/night for self-park or $20/night for valet), although the two large resort lots are free. In the winter the underground parking included would be a nice feature.

Stayed in a one bedroom which was small but functionable and better than a basic hotel room, which is what we were looking. Kitchenette with half fridge, dishwasher and microwave, plus a toaster. Bed and bedding were noticeably inferior to the Westin.
One issue with the room was just a design issue - there was only a very small closet which would be an issue to unpack. We wound up living out of the suitcase and given the very small space in the bedroom had to walk around it, since we had no place to put it (wouldn't fit into the closet). Bathroom was a basic cheap condo bathroom, plasticky bath tub, with white subway tile but functionable.

The condo is designed in a U shape with the pool/hottub in the middle - an unoccupied retail space blocks off the "U" to the pond/village. A very bizarrely designed pool with a large concrete section in the middle wastes a lot of pool space, at the expense of deck space for chairs results in very limited lounge chairs. The lounge chairs were completely occupied when we were there but there weren't a lot of them given the design. Impossible to actually "swim" since because there was no open area, more areas to dip in and stand. Nice custom hot tub with four areas and could hold 35-40 people. Small sauna but kept at about 50C - could be a lot hotter. Did enjoy that pool/hottub were open to 11pm.

For activities we hiked the mountain, rode the ridge runner, and did the new Tree Tops climbing experience which the kids enjoyed. The most popular activity as in past visits was actually catching frogs by the pond which they did several times a day.

Like most resorts, the restaurants are busy and considerably overpriced, so we enjoyed the kitchenette and had stopped at the grocery store on the drive in, and stocked up for lunches and breakfasts - and only ate dinner out.

Price paid was slightly below/same for the equivalent in the Westin at the same time but got a considerably larger space. I'd say depending on the price we would probably weigh both options the next time given they have pretty much the same facilities, and location benefits.

Your experience here will vary depending on the unit size, and location (village side vs parking lot - and floor level). Would recommend asking for parking lot size and higher floor if there are room options when you check-in.

We did not experience any noise issues. Condo was pretty much full of families, and at 100%.

Room Tip: parking lot sides, not on the ground floor. do not face the village

Dear Beachman727,

Thank you for this very thorough review of your latest visit to Collingwood and Blue Mountain Resorts Limited, we are glad you found Mosaic to be a runner up to your previous Westin visit with some differences. It really depends on individual preferences and purpose of visit, we get many guests that will only stay in slopeside or mountain homes and love them, sierra is not part of our resort (independently operated) and then the Blue Mountain Inn is available for a hotel room experience and is just nearing completion of a full renovation to every guest room.

The pools have been extraordinarily busy this summer with the fantastic weather we’ve had, more poolside chairs have been ordered but will not be delivered for another couple of weeks.

With the expansion of our available activities we are getting wonderful feedback about how much there is to do and for a wide range of interests and ages. We’re very glad you enjoyed the activities you selected on this occasion, including frogging!

We 're delighted you are considering your next visit to the area and look forward to having you return.

Yours truly,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Limited

When we arrived the hotel room was newly renovated in a condo style, with a kitchenette, table and sitting room with a fireplace. It was exceptionally clean and had alomst everything you need. Our room had a small balcony that overlooked a huge white tennis dome so we didn't spend anytime on it. We were also directly across from the banquet hall in the village and did not sleep at all on the Satuday because of a wedding that was going on. There seemed to be no security or staff to tell the party goers at the wedding to stop shouting and screaming at 3:30am. I think that if we had a room on the other side of the hotel it would have been much better.

The staff was polite and friendly and we had no issues with the hotel. There is a small grocery store two minutes walking distance from the hotel and a large grocery store (15 minutes drive into town) where you can get everything you need. The restaurants in town were rather pricey for what they offered. Overall the atmosphere and the ambiance was very lovely. I highly recommend the scenic caves tour. The hotel webiste offers you to buy a package where you can use tokens towards tours, however we found once we got there most of the tours we wanted to do were not a part of our package. I think it is a great resort for kids and families.

Room Tip: Choose a room facing away from the parking lot and tennis dome.

Dear AdveSVNC,

Thank you for posting your comments regarding a recent visit to Blue Mountain Resorts Limited for our Trip Advisor readers. We are glad you enjoyed your stay and the many conveniences of the Village. Many of the tours in the area are operated by independent owners and therefore we are unable to include them in our activity pack. The activity pack does grant access to the attractions owned and operated by us, including the mountain coaster, high/low ropes courses, mini putt and more.

We do regret that the wedding taking place was located near to your suite and caused some disturbance. We would suggest requesting a specific view to avoid a repeat of this in the future.

Yours truly,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Limited

My family and I went for a mini vacation. We booked into Mosaic because it offered a kitchenette. The kitchenette was ideal for preparing snacks or light meals only. There is no dish washing liquid or wash cloth to do small washing up jobs. We had to load the dish washer up and run it which was not very environmentally friendly. The suite we had was well appointed and very clean. It was quiet for the most part (we were on the opposite side of the village, great for young children who have an early bedtime), except for the guests who may not have been so considerate walking through the hall. The king sized bed was super comfy and housekeeping came through efficiently and quickly. Our son was bit disappointed with the cable as there was no Treehouse channel and the suite did not come with a DVD player so that we could play appropriate aged videos for him. But he enjoyed the pool and the individual spray jets even though the pool was a fairly constantly busy place. The only draw back to our suite was the bird poop that we constantly found on the balcony. Our balcony was not covered and exposed so a few of our swim suits ended up with some splatters of bird poop on them when we left them out to dry. All in all Mosaic was a good experience.

Room Tip: Rooms on the opposite side of the Village are quieter especially for families with young children...

We had a Studio suite...the bed is against the hall wall next to the entrance door...you can hear everything and a lot happens...it seems more time is spent in the hallways talking then in the rooms...of the 4 nights we stayed only one night we slept right through...younger couple all excited leaving their rooms at 12:30 am for the night club and then waking us up at 3:30 when they got back.

The pool was always packed and people started putting towels on the chairs as early as 8:00am...they need to get more chairs or enforce Mosaic rule #5 no saving chairs.

Overall our 4 night stay was very nice...I think more of a family resort...lots of kids.

Room Tip: A 1 bedroom might be a better choice...you might be able to get some sleep.

Dear Carlo C,

Thank you for posting your comments regarding a recent visit to Blue Mountain Resorts Limited on Trip Advisor. We are disappointed to hear you did not thoroughly enjoy your stay and found the room location to be noisy.

The resort is considered to be an active good times destination, suitable to a variety of traveling dynamics. With so much in terms of activities, shopping and dining all compacted into one big Village we appeal to a wide range of guests. Perhaps travelling off peak would be a good suggestion to avoid families on vacation with younger children.

We look forward to welcoming you back to Blue Mountain Resorts Limited in the future.

We have been to Blue Mountain numerous times but this was the first time staying at the Mosaic. It is one of the newest additions at the Village. We shared a 3 bdroom suite with another family and it was roomy enough and nicely decorated, however the floors / kitchen cabinets / dishes / sofa's were disguistingly dirty. Looks like all the housekeeper did was change bed linens and tidy. No dusting, no vacuuming, no cleaning floors. When we wiped the kitchen floor that was sticky with grime - the cloth was all black. The kitchen cabinets were caked with grime and the handprints on the refrigerator weren't even wiped away. Also, check in states 4 pm. and we have NEVER had to wait until the 4 pm time - but no, not at the Mosaic. WE arrived at 1pm - and they said the room wasn't ready and they'd put a call into housekeeping to tell them to step on it - however, they waited until 4pm. the very last second to call us to our room. And the counter staff - were unpleasant and not eager to please.

Room Tip: Stay at the older side of the village. We never had problems at the Weider Lodge. It's older an...

Dear Emilytricia,

Oh my, thank you for bringing these concerns to our attention; we are equally disappointed that your room did not receive a thorough cleaning prior to your arrival. This is indeed, very out of the ordinary and warrants further review internally to determine how these oversights occurred. We can assure you and encourage readers to scan past reviews to see that this is most definitely not standard in terms of room cleanliness.

Check-in time is and has been 4pm for many years, we accept requests for early check-in’s but are unable to guarantee them. With check-out at 11am, we have a window of 5 hours to access and clean all the rooms needed for the days arrivals, when we have guests departing late without our knowledge our timelines are compromised. This is not an isolated instance to the Mosaic hotel, if we can get our guests into their rooms early we are very pleased to do so, however it just isn’t always possible.

We are disappointed to hear our desk staff did not greet you in a pleasant and courteous manner, this is also very unusual. We get very favorable feedback about staff in this area and are concerned to hear your comments. We will ensure the manager in this area is made aware of your experience and addresses his team accordingly to avoid a repeat of this service in the future.

Thank you once again for your valuable feedback, we look forward to welcoming you back to Blue Mountain Resorts Limited in the future.
