“Perfect First Family Getaway”
Reviewed September 8, 2013

We choose the Westin Trillium Blue Mountain as our First Family Getaway with our one year old. It was strongly recommened to us by a friend who has spent lots of week-ends up there already. Although she described it as beautiful, she forgot to mention how awesome this place is for families:

We stayed in a two bedroom suite with kitchenette (perfect!), they brought us a crib (not a playpen!) and throughout the village were kids toys and activies non-stop. Activities such as super large sandbox with all sorts of sand box toys, frog hunting, paiting activities, boating on the little lake, splash pad and pool and so much more. Oh, and not to forget their awesome beach, sandy, calm water, not deep at all, clean and again kids toys offered all over the place!

We really enjoyed our trip to the Scenic Caves and the walk on top of Blue Mountain. We cant wait for our son to be older in order to enjoy all the other fun stuff offered in the area: biking, hiking, climbing and skiing, icescating in the winter.

I actually cant wait to get back up their altogether! Everyone at the hotel was extremely friendly and helpful! I hope to see everyone soon - this coming winter! Thank you, Travis, for a wonderful unforgettable 3 day getaway!

Room Tip: If you are travelling with children, you must choose at least a One Bedroom Suite. The kitchenette h...

This was our second year visiting this hotel and Collingwood. We had a fantastic time. It's a beautiful property, the rooms are modern and clean (love the fixtures in the shower), the Village has a lot for both kids and adults to do, and the service is wonderful.

We went with my son, and his grandparents for 4 days, in a two bedroom suite. While we were there, my 70-something mother experienced a serious health issue, and the hotel staff were beyond wonderful (I can't say thank you enough). The service and caring that was demonstrated was beyond the call of duty.

The resort and the Village more generally has a ton of great things for the kids to do. Try the Mountain Coaster - lots of fun. The pool areas and pond are great too, and there's lots of hiking at the top of the mountain (the Gondola ride down the mountain is free if you hike up!). Wasaga Beach and the Collingwood Beach are close by, and there are lots of affordable and very good restaurants in the Village. You could stay on the property all week and not run out of fun things to do with the family. The only recommendation I would have is that the hotel needs a second elevator shaft - it's a very long walk for those with mobility issues, down a narrow hallway.

I would highly recommend the Westin Trillium House at Blue Mountain, and hope to return again next year!

Room Tip: If you have mobility issues, ask for a room close to the elevator. The hallway is very long and narr...

Westin has always been known for their quality and amenities.
Our suite was setup up for a longer term stay than our overnight stay.
I would recommend this hotel as easy alternative to staying in the condos at the village.

We spent 2 wonderful days at Blue Mountain with our two children recently and we had a wonderful time.

Our room was on the fourth floor with a view of the electrical transformers (!) and the mountain, but other than that we had a great time. The room was pretty well kept and quite clean. We certainly appreciated the amenities (coffee machine with Starbucks, small kitchenette with dish, utensils, etc.) with little kids. The regular bed was fantastic, but we also had to use the pull out. It was only okay - but we were not expecting much.

The location was perfect. We felt so close to everything but at the same time, we had peace and quiet when it was time for us to send the kids to bed. The staff was very friendly and everyone always had a smile for us.

The pool as others have mentioned is SMALL - out of proportion SMALL. There was no room for us on a hot summer's day (no surprise!) so we spent about 30 minutes by the pool and headed out to the small pond to use the paddle boats instead. The gondola ride was fantastic and fun. The kids loved the view and it was really beautiful to see out to Georgian Bay. In the evening, a movie was screened in the main square.

The restaurant, O&B Café, was excellent! We booked an early dinner and our server did an amazing job of getting the kids food out quickly and our drinks coming even quicker. :) We had an excellent meal and no one got hurt, err, or had a tantrum.

The only mis-step was at check out. The line up to check out quarter to 11 was 10 people deep with only one person behind the counter. I waited for a little while - at least 5 - 10 minutes - long enough for my husband to go to the car, pack up our things, and return to the lobby. But when it was my turn, I was able to check us within seconds.

We would definitely come back in the summer. It's a fun place and a load of fun for both adults and kids of various ages.

Dear Apple27,

Thank you for providing your in depth Holiday Weekend perspective. We are very pleased that our resort setting and multitude of activities met the needs of your family and that you enjoyed your time with us. You have my personal apology for the check-out delay and crowded pool experience. You have experienced what can sometimes happen on a busy long weekend when the volume of patrons creates the need to cary staffing quickly (and we clearly missed that mark that morning). In general our summers are exceptionally busy but we have found that there is always alternatives if one activity is busier than others providing our guests with multiple options for fun. Thank you once again for reaching out and we do hope to see you again soon.

Had a great time in Blue with an enjoyable stay at the Westin Trillium, rooms were comfortable if a little small. Good location with some fantastic views of the mountain.

Didn't have chance to dine in but certainly looked a good menue, virtually able to ski out of the front door and onto the slopes.

We stayed at the Westin Trillium House Blue Mountain on the August long weekend.

This is our second stay at the hotel and overall we were pleased, it's probably the nicest hotel in the Collingwood area.

Check-In - Upon checking in, I was told that my room was not ready but could be put into another room that was. I'm not sure why my room wouldn't be ready as check-in time is at 4:00pm and I didn't check in until 4:45pm, but whatever. I think they need to be more efficient with their cleaning to ensure that rooms are ready on time because, had I shown up at 4pm and not had a room ready for me, I would have been very upset.

We had a deluxe room with a fireplace. The room was a nice size and very clean. The fire place didn't work when we got to the room so we put in a service call and someone was at our door within 5 minutes. The problem was quickly and professionally resolved. We had a room facing the front of the hotel and it does get noisy with the traffic out front and people talking loudly late at night so you have to keep your windows closed.

There seems to be some confusion with bed size at this particular Westin hotel - I'm not sure why they sell double-sized beds as Queen Size. They must be very confused as to size dimensions. This is the second time we've stayed at this hotel and had to sleep in a very tiny bed. Now we are not large people by any means, I'm only 5'3 and my husband is only 5'5, we are petite people and even we found the bed to be unusually small which was somewhat uncomfortable (although the comfort of the bed aside from size is good).

We did not eat at O&B but have in the past at this location and thoroughly enjoyed the meal.

I had a workout in the gym one morning and it was a nice little facility to get a morning workout, it was rather busy the morning I was there.

Overally, I would recommend this resort. I would say it's the nicest in Collingwood - close to the village and ample underground parking (charge of $15 per night for this). For what they charge for rooms, you would think they include wifi but they don't, it costs $10 for 24 hours of service.

Dear Walljo,

Thank you for providing such a detailed and thorough commentary on your recent visit to the Trillium House. We are very pleased that for the most part you enjoyed your time with us and that in those instances were you required service we were able to attend to your concerns quickly. You have our apologies if your arrival experience was not up to standard and that we needed to start your fireplace.

As I have stated in other posts ( and what you experienced) we generally are able to arrive most of our guests after our prescribed check in time of 4pm. On days were we have a large volume of departures and heavy arrivals it can be difficult to have every room available at 4pm. Our inventory is such however that most arrivals can be accommodated except for those requesting specific views or locations within the property. We can normally offer accommodation in the requested room type (which we do guarantee) however a delay may be experienced is special requests must be met (which we do not guarantee). It is important however to ensure that we are aware of these kinds of requests in advance as we will always attempt to satisfy them regardless fo business volume.

We do in fact turn off our fireplace units during the summer months. We have a very energy efficient building and we find that even the modest heat thrown off by the pilot lights can sometimes impact cooling during very hot periods. We will however dispatch an associate upon request to light the pilot is a guest so wishes during the summer months. Apparently you were not informed of this.

Your comments on the size of our queen beds is not surprising as I have received them before. I have always been quite amazed at how many people have this perspective however I can assure you and our readers that there are no double beds in this hotel! Take it from the person responsible for ordering them (me) that we only have full size queens and hotel kings (that are 6 inches narrower than a standard king - but the same length) in this property. I have only been able to surmise that the tight layouts in a few of our rooms (alcoves, coffered cielings, many corners) may contribute to the perception of a smaller sized bed but the specific measurements are in fact those a full sized queen.

In the end we are very pleased that you enjoyed your time with us and hope to see you again soon. When you choose to travel again please reach out to me personally so I may ensure that you are assigned a suite with a king rather than a queen - that should solve our sizing problem!

James Henry, General Manager
