“Great location, but they're letting it go”
Reviewed August 31, 2013

We love Blue Mountain and the Grand Georgian is our favourite place to stay. But the last few times we've been disappointed with the rooms. This last time we had maintenance up to our room 5 times - the TV movies didn't work, the bathtub drain was clogged, and the bathroom fan sounds like an airplane. (The last time, the bathtub faucet fell right off.) Our friends next door had to call to have their air conditioning fixed as well as their kitchen sink drain. I don't know if Intrawest is reducing costs, but it's affecting their guests' experiences. We'll be back because we love the skiing in the winter and the outdoor activities in the summer. But we do hope Intrawest will step it up a notch. I certainly wouldn't consider buying a place.

We try and do something new with the kids every year but I think we may have found OUR go to vacation spot.

Check in was quick and efficient. Super friendly staff.

Everytime we were in the elevator with a staff member they asked how our trip was so far. They listened to our chatterbox 6 year old tell them what we have done so far or what we were going to do. It made him feel as though he was important too.

When we got to our room our air was not working. Called down to the At your service and someone was sent up immediately. They fixed everything and we were on our way to cooling down.

There was so much to do at this resort we hardly had time for it all. Being able to settle down at night and listen to live music under the StubHub sign was never disappointing. Took all I had to not get up and dance with my husband to "our" song.

The only thing I would like to see changed is maybe a "family" pass for the attractions rather than buying tickets that way we could experience more without breaking the bank.

Can't wait to come back next year

Dear mama_2_a_b,

This is so exciting; we are thrilled to think you are considering making us your go to holiday destination. We are so proud of our staff members, they really love what they do and it shows, we’re even more pleased to hear that your young son engaged one some of our team members with his event filled stories, he is as important to us as any guest.

Sorry to hear that the air conditioning had a moment upon your arrival, really happy to hear how fast our maintenance was to correct this for you.

There is a lovely ambiance to the Village, the live music is such a nice touch, and many of our guests really enjoy it. We’re surprised that others weren’t up dancing; it wouldn’t be a first if they had been.

Thank you for your suggestion regarding the attraction tickets, we will take this under advisement.

Yours truly,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Limited

We loved blue mountain last year and that's why we decide to revisit this year for our family gathering. We booked 1 bedroom suite at Grand Georgian. We arrived at 11 and of course we were told that room wont be ready until 4 (to be honest, can't understand why that its only in Canada that checkout is at 11 and check in at 4 -- 5 hours to clean the room?)

Getting sofa beds ready for the kids, I was shocked to find food (Gold Fish snack) inside the sofa bed right under the cushions. That tells me that they didn't even bother to remove cushions and they didn't change sheets from previous tenants. It was disgusting.
I set the bed and changed sheets myself for kids to sleep and the following morning folded back the sofa bed. Doing so, chips and other Gold fish snacks fell on the floor in front of the sofa bed

We went out to the pool the whole day with the rest of the family, room service came around 3 and to our disbelief, chips were still on the floor lying in front of the sofa bed. They only went to do master bedroom bed and changed towels without even bother to check outside or vacuum

On another incident, I took my youngest daughter to the coaster, we lined up for almost 40 minutes and when we finally went on the ride, we had couple of first timers in front of us. They came to full stop three times during the ride. In one incident, we were coming down full speed and I had to fully stop in order not to hit them. I complained to the operator at the end and he said we will give you tickets for another ride. I stepped out and asked for tickets and he said sorry we don't have, go and lineup again and just say it was a "slow ride" I said I cant lineup again for another 40 minutes. He said "sorry cant help"

Well I can definitely say that this was the worst time at blue mountains and I don't think we are going to revisit anytime soon, I would definitely spend my money somewhere else with better service

Dear Ktawfik,

Thank you for taking the time to share some helpful feedback with fellow Trip Advisor readers following your recent visit to our resort. With regards to room readiness, while times may vary between lodging properties across the country and for that matter the world, comparing us to a standard hotel would put us at a disadvantage. Our lodging units are complex, they vary in sizes and most offer kitchens creating an increased amount of cleaning compared to that of a standard hotel room one or two beds and a bathroom to clean up. With our check out time being 11am and our check in time being 4pm, we have a 5 hour window to prepare for arrivals. The challenges begin with guests not leaving at the designated time and holding up cleaning staff thereby reducing the available time to access all rooms required for our arrivals.

We are disappointed to hear you found some snack crackers hiding under the sofa cushions and apologize for this oversight, while the sheets were likely not used; we completely understand the perception when finding food crumbs. The cushions should be lifted each time whether sheets require changing or not and any debris swept away, and we thank you for bringing this to our attention and appreciate the opportunity to improve our service quality.

Our standard daily housekeeping services provide for taking out the trash, replenishing towels if indicated as desired by the guest and making up beds that are free of personal belongings. On the fourth day of a stay, we do a full service which would include vacuuming and dusting, linen changes and so on.

We’re sorry to hear you encountered some cautious riders on the Ridge Runner, this is unfortunate and we thank you for raising this point. While we cannot dictate the degree of caution exercised by each guest we must respect that not everyone wants to go at top speed and understand how this impacted your enjoyment of the ride. We will endeavor to seek a more seamless approach to facilitating a request such as yours that would avoid a lengthy wait time and allow you to have the experience you were seeking. We will also use your example as a training tool with our staff in this area and coach for empathetic and professional responses to guest queries.

Yours truly,
On behalf of Blue Mountain Resorts Ltd.,

This was the third time going to blue mountain and for the most part it was fun. This year we stayed in the grand Georgian building. Unfortunately having stayed in weider lodge and seasons at blue the Grand Georgian is the least favourite out of all of them. The room was nice but the view was not. The pool was busy because it is the biggest for the 3 hotels but this is not really a big deal. The ridge runner and the not so mini putt were fun and the food was great. There is lots to do for kids of all ages and teenagers. What would be really nice in the future be have the ability to be able to pick what building you would like to stay in instead of it being chosen for you.

Dear rugby_guy_12

Thank you for your comments, we’re sorry to hear you weren’t overly thrilled on this occasion, primarily due to your room assignment and more notably the view. Each building has its own unique charm, how unfortunate that the Grand Georgian didn’t meet your expectations on this occasion. We typically receive very favorable comments about this lodging property. The attractions routinely garner very favorable feedback and your remarks support this trend. We appreciate your suggestion in respect to having the ability to choose a lodging location and will certainly note this feedback.

We stayed in a one-bedroom at the Grand Georgian this week, and had a great time. A very well-kept property - rooms and common areas were clean and had all the amenities you need to be comfy. Loved having a kitchen so we didn't have to eat out every single meal. As a family vacation, it was great because you exit the hotel into a pedestrian plaza of interesting shops, restaurants, and many on-resort attractions. Casual, relaxed atmosphere everywhere - things are upscale but you can go everywhere in your activewear. Pack your Columbia stuff and Lululemons.

A brief rundown of the notably good and bad:

GOOD
- mountain coaster is way fun. Get the 'active pack' - it's a much better deal.
- mini golf is nice. Playground is nice. We didn't swim, but Plunge looked nice (but not exceptional, esp. considering the cost. REALLY want to do ropes course when my DD is a little older.)
- Scenic Caves nearby is a must do - a VERY worthwhile attraction, esp. for families.
- many events in the plaza - live music, movie nights, birds of prey show... they provide earplugs in the rooms, which would be essential if you're a light sleeper. Noise is noticeable until 9:30 or 10.
-Kaytoo - a great restaurant with the best view in the place. Copper Blues was pretty nice, and kids are made welcome everywhere.

NOT-SO-GOOD
- Sunset Grill - 8 bucks for a dry waffle on a plate, with plastic-encased butter and no fruit or toppings in sight... and it took 20 minutes? Really, guys?
- Kikaku sushi - caught them on a bad night I think. Screwed up our order several ways, even after reminders - and it wasn't a complex order. No offer to discount anything, and it was only an average meal.
- prices overall - it's the end of summer but even the sales barely brought prices down to the point where you'd want to buy a jacket there. Go already equipped, and enjoy the attractions and nicer restaurants instead.

Room Tip: Higher floors are probably quieter if you're staying in the village. For a quieter experience, m...

What a wonderful summary of the resort, thank you for posting this feedback for Trip Advisor readers. The rooms are very functional and comfy; the location and Village access is ideal, leave the car parked, no need to drive anywhere. The attractions are definitely unique, we cannot be compared to a theme park, our offerings provide something for everyone and it’s nice to know you enjoyed a variety of them. We’re sorry to hear you had a couple of unsatisfactory dining experiences, we will be sure to share your comments with the business owners.

I stayed in the Grand Georgian for a conference at Blue Mountain. The Grand Georgian is ideally located in the middle of the village, so it was quick and easy to walk everywhere. The studio room was really large and I had a great view of the main stage area. There was lots of seating in the room and the mini fridge really came in handy. It was advertised on the website that there was a DVD player in the room. However, I ended up having to borrow a portable DVD player from reception, because they had taken all of the DVD players out of the rooms a couple months ago. You may want to bring your own DVD player as they only have a limited number available.
The part of the hotel I was really disappointed in was the pool. It wasn't very clean and it was very shallow. I often scraped my knees and feet while trying to do laps in the pool. There were often no towels available later on in the evening.

Wow, another terrific and detailed portrayal of our lovely resort and lodging facilities, thank you so much. Oh dear, yes the DVD players were all removed from the rooms due to unreliability and subsequent disappointments, we will be sure to scour our advertising and remove this feature. We apologize for your dissatisfaction with the pool in this location, this is not the quality of experience we intend and will review current practices in an effort to improve.
