“A beautiful ryokan”
Reviewed February 15, 2013

We had a lovely stay in this comfortable ryokan. The room was extremely comfortable and was complete with a deep tub in the bathroom. It was a bit difficult to find because we didn't realise that the ryokan is also a tea house/restaurant so we actually walked past it.It is in a lovely woodland situation and we had our own carp pond directly outside our window.Highly recommended.

Was going to stay in a "Luxury Ryokan" in Hakone but after long consideration decided that 2 nights in a family run traditional ryokan would be time and money better spent. Well we hit the nail on the head. After 5 days in Tokyo we made our way down to Hiroshima then onto Miyajima Island. This island is fantastic for peace and tranquility especially due to it being a week day so the crowds were down. Momiji-so is a very traditional ryokan and it gave us great insight into real japanese ryokan hospitality. It was fantastic from the pick up, greeting, hot tub, cosy bed, wonderful food and location - we couldnt have asked for much more. Once we got out walking it was easy enought to get around. You can't come to Miyajima and not do Mt Mison and miss out on a 2 night stay at Momiji-so. We will return.

Room Tip: Any of the rooms here would be wonderful.

It is run by a grandmother and son. When you get the ferry over from the mainland, the son picks you up as it is situated in a park. The outside does not do it justice, the rooms are beautiful. The son and Grandmother are so nice and friendly, it was like staying with people you know. It is in a park so when it is dark you need a torch which they supply. I loved the Japanese breakfast. The grandmother speaks some English and gave us a lovely gift when we departed. When we stayed the restaurants shut early as it is winter so you need to eat early. Lovely island, well worth the visit.

Room Tip: We had one at the back which overlooks a small waterfall.

We stayed here with friends 5 years ago on the recommendation of a schoolfriend whose son lives in Japan. We loved it so much that we came back again for one night, although two would have been perfect. The woman who runs the ryokan was friendly and welcoming, as was her son who carried out suitcases into our room. The room was beautiful and overlooked a pond filled with carp. We explored this beautiful island and then had a bath in the family hot tub before dinner. The meal was the best that we had on our 2 week trip to Japan. It was perfect in every way. We slept peacefully as the ryokan is in a quiet part of the island. Breakfast the next morning was also exquisite. We were driven back to the ferry by the owners daughter in law. A great experience the second time around. We recommend it highly.

HI, we stayed 2 nights and were very royally treated from being picked up when we were lost to finding out Grandma's skin care secrets! Food was fantastic and we loved our accommodation. It isnt cheap but then again there isnt much on Miyajima that is. The island itself is a magic place to stay and explore. We climbed Mt Misen and then walked back down again as the Ropeway wasn't working. Recommended for anyone reasonably fit. The Torii gate and Shrine are exquisite as are other temples and shrines on the island. Worst part was we arrived on a weekend as did every Japanese in Japan I think!

We stayed here one night May 2012, I would recommend staying overnight to see the island once the crowds have gone. We were collected from the ferry as arranged. Room was lovely, charming traditional japanese style. The room had a small sitting area with large windows looking out to forest and a koi pond right next to the window! Very relaxing. We had our own bathroom but we saw the large communal onsen bath next door which would also have been nice. Dinner was excellent, multiple courses and super huge langoustines! Alcohol available with dinner. We went down to the shore for high tide. It was a 10 min walk through the forest to the shrine - unfortunately when we visited the torii was being repaired after a storm and was covered in scaffolding! Luckily there was a concert on in the shrine though, so we got to hear some lovely music and enjoy the special lighting. They were keen that we were back by 10pm which was fine and gave us a flashlight and overcoats. The futons were very comfortable, as I found in all the ryokan we stayed in. I like that there are duvets not just sheets. Lovely breakfast, mixed western and japanese, more western items than some other ryokan we stayed at. We really enjoyed our stay and would love to return. Service was lovely and friendly - it is a traditional japanese experience.

My friend and I stayed in several places in Japan this June . Mommji-so was by far the worst experience. First of all, value for money is poor even if you don't opt to pay for food. The room was spartan, the television had no foreign channels. We were not allowed out after 9 pm. The women in charge was actually very rude to us and couldn't speak any real English. Irritatingly, the promised shuttle bus service didn't exist so we had to lug our travel bags into the middle of the woods in the pouring rain in the dark.. Obviously I would not recommend a visit here. Thanks for reading!
