Miyajima is a 'must do' if you are going to Japan. It is well worth making the effort to stay on the island. Once the many day trippers depart you feel as if you have this magical place to yourself. Morinoyado is a great choice. It provides you with the experience of staying in traditional style accommodation. The rooms are very comfortable, the meals very good. Dinner is served in your room. You can select a Western style breakfast if you want. There is an onsen provided for guests which I definitely recommend. The staff are friendly and helpful. The only hassle, and it was minor for us, was the distance from the ferry terminal to the accommodation. Its at least a 15 minute walk and if you have a lot of luggage it could present a problem. However I would not let this deter me from booking at Morinoyado.

We stayed here in the first week of April. It was comfortable and definitely . We arrived an hour early but weren't allowed to check in, but they kept our luggage for us. The room itself was very large and very clean. However, we did have to lay the beds ourselves, which might be a bit strange if you're not used to it. The bathrooms are also very clean. They had a public bath available to use but we didn't use it so I can't comment on that.

A note to people planning to stay here - apparently there are only 3 taxis on the whole island (according to the tourist information booth), so you may need to wait a while for a taxi to come. When you exit the ferry station there is a large information board with a map in front of you - the taxi stand is to the left of that. Another option is to take the bus, but they don't run very often. You could walk there in 15 minutes or so but hard to do with heavy luggage in tow. It's across from the aquarium, so if you get lost, just follow the signs to the aquarium.

Lovely Japanese inn at the far edge of tourist area. We are Americans living in Japan most of the year, so we are accustomed to and enjoy traditional Japanese inns. This ryokan includes both breakfast and dinner in their room rate, with the choice of a Western breakfast. Breakfast is served in the inn restaurant, and dinner was served in our room. We certainly felt well-fed. The inn also includes a nice onsen (Japanese bath) with an outside view. The inn is located on the western edge of the tourist area, just beyond the aquarium and on the edge of a national park. Many places to walk enjoying nature, shops and interesting shops. My husband and I spent only one night on Miyajima and both of us agreed that we wish we had planned a longer stay. Definitely recommend this inn.

Good view from our room; excentric location, but nice for walks.

Stayed here in July, 2010 with my husband, and two boys ages 10 and 13. We had a lovely spacious room, delicious dinner including a children's meal served in a series of stacked plates like a pagoda and use of the baths (but also our own private bathroom for those who prefer that). Beautiful walk at night down to the temple with lights and stars and deer!
