I wish we stayed here an extra night! Would love to come back with my partner one day. I was here with family and we shared a triple room. Accommodation is very close to the pier yet the staff still organised transport to pick us up with our luggage. We could not fault the service at all. The ryokan was beautiful - traditional yet modernised with a lovely bathtub, shower and fancy toilet! The highlight was definitely the awesome onsen...oops..I meant ONSENS! The toiletries provided in the room and at the onsen change room were all lovely organic products. The indoor onsen had some sort of milky mineral that made the skin sooooo smooth. The outdoor onsen was amaaaazing - had a view of the Tori gate...a must do at night and early morning!!! The breakfast was just exquisite...such variety and so delicious, I can only imagine what the kaiseiki dinner would be like! Highly recommended...although it was the most expensive accommodation on our trip, it was well worth it and I would stay here again! Central to all the shops.

I agree with other reviewers that it is an excellent ryokan, with perfect service and delicious food. I asked for cold sake, and was invited to taste several in order to choose. This was a first, and I have stayed many, many times in ryokan.

It is very conveniently located, an easy walk from the pier, and equally easy one to the famous torii and the shrine. The room was lovely, with a particularly comfortable futon. I note that there are beautiful ikebana flower arrangements throughout the ryokan.

The hot bath was of course a delight. I regret I could only stay one night!

I planned a trip around Japan with my wife and children (9 & 11 years old). We decided to have a look at Hiroshima but wanted something alot nicer than the choices in the city. Miyajima was a highly recommended destination by Japanese friends. Although there are some apparently very nice traditional ryokans on the island, we wanted something more modern. The Iroha is located within an easy walk of the ferries and on the main shopping street. We opted for a room with a fantastic view of Torii Gate, with both western beds for adults and tatami mats for the children's futons. The rooms are spotless and nicely decorated. The bathroom and shower area is functional, albeit resembling more of a hospital than a luxurious ryokan. Views aside, the real highlight is the restaurant. The dinner was spectacular, only matched by the fabulous and very attentive service. The dining area is beautiful, a juxtapose of modern and traditional. The tables are all very comfortable western style and dining in the provided robes is encouraged. The sake list was solid. Back to the food, course after course of gourmet japanese dining. We had pre-selected a seafood focused menu on one night and a top-quality beef focused menu on the other. The descriptions were all in Japanese, albeit a few staff have good command of the English language. You will not leave the table hungry. They are very flexible as well, offering childrens menus which are quite nice in their own right. Breakfast is an event as well, a tour-de-force of varied and nutritious small plates assembled on a tray. If you need WiFi, let them know as they will place a router in your room to ensure a good signal. Unfortunately, I didn't use the rooftop onsen bath, so cannot comment. The Iroha was also very organized about receiving and forwarding our luggage with Yamato transport (a good option if you're moving around the country via trains and ferries). Keep in mind that Miyajima does attract masses of tourists during the daytime hours, however night-time and early morning are wonderful and the Iroha an excellent choice.

A wonderful modern Japanese ryokan with excellent service. My room has the view of the ocean and Tori gate and it's wonderful to watch sunset over the Tori gate. The kaiseiki dinner and breakfast were exquisite. The open air onsen on the rooftop is magical - to watch the ocean view and golden illuminated Tori bridge at night while soaking in the hot onsen. Great way to relieve the muscle aches after the Mt Misen hike.
Quite expensive but absolutely worth it.

The most sublime way to experience the famous shrine of Miyajima: see it while soaking in the steamy baths on the rooftop of the Iroha Hotel, at nightfall, when all is quiet on the island. While the moon rose over the sea, I sat naked in the steamy water, peering over the plants, while down below, the shrine glowed orange, floating in the water. The evening air was cool on my skin, and I could see the lights of the ferryboat crossing the bay, twinkling in the quiet night. Across the bay, the city of mainland Hiroshima glimmered; the mountains were cusped with twilight. All was still and sacred.

I would recommend this hotel, simply for this rooftop experience. It is an exceptional treat, different from the typical visit with crowds of tourists, to the shrine, in the daytime, marching past the trinket shops. It is a way to see the shrine for what it is.

Magical.

On the rooftop, you are alone with the shrine, the bay, the moon. The spa also offers all that the best Japanese onsen does: shampoos and creams and soaps to purify the skin before entering the steamy water; thick towels and brushes and slippers; a silky kimono to relax in on the wooden pier. The clean wood feels good on bare feet, and the evening breezes fresh on the skin. Here you can have a ritual ceremony---a steaming cleansing of self and body---- while meditating on the orange arch floating in the quiet sea, as the sun sets to night.

A highlight in Japan.
