“An nice walk and cool structure.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 30, 2012

Truth be told, I enjoyed the very pretty walk up to the building and the view from it, more than the actual structure. The pagoda is very pretty as well. I think it is worth seeing, as part of your walk around the island.

“A Very Interesting Building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 6, 2012

The hall, which dates back to 1587, is located on a small hill just beside Itsukushima Shrine. Its purpose when built was to honor fallen soldiers, but it was never fully completed. The beautiful five-storied pagoda is just outside of it.

It is a very interesting building to see because of its age. There are many old paintings which are really nice. I would try and see it. It is worth a visit.

“Amazing building”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 17, 2012

For any fan of wooden buildings, this is worth seeing. The ancient timbers show weather and repairs along with the smoothness of care. Very interesting site. Five-story pagoda next to the shrine is quite beautiful, too, especially against a backdrop of cherry blossoms.

“Senjokaku”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 22, 2010

The Itsukushima Shrine and its complex may be the sole reason to visit Miyajima Island. It is a superb historical site wit a number of site attractions. we could only stay a few hours and regret not having had more time. We also regretted not having stayed over night on the island. But apart from all the glamour and crowd of the Shrine, I would also strongly suggest to go up the hill to see Senjokaku. An amazing wooden structure with a vast spacial area. It was very calm and solitary. only a few people were up there. There is also one picturesque spot to see the greenery of the hills and the top of the Itsukushima shrine. So to relax and breathe in a little solitute just walk up to Senjokaku.
