I live in Zihuatanejo and I took my girlfriend to Playa Viva for the weekend to propose to her. I chose Playa Viva because I thought it would be a special place for a special event in my life and I couldn't have been more correct. Everything in Playa Viva was top notch and well thought out.

It's important to know that PV is about 45 minutes outside of town in a little village. You would think that this would make it difficult to get all the luxuries you want when you travel but you are never left wanting when you are here. The main reason is the staff is incredible. A good example is I asked for a bucket of ice for wine. They didn't have one so Johnny took another bucket decorated it beautifully and then delivered that instead. Great thinking and it made it even better than a generic wine bucket.

We stayed in a private little bungalow. Very cool room and probably nothing you've seen before. It's elevate probably 5 feet off the ground. Two of the walls in the bedroom completely open so you can get full views and full breeze. Our room did not have an a/c and it's hot this time of year so the breeze is very important.

I own a boutique hotel and I'm very picky when it comes to where I stay and service. I've also done extensive traveling through Mexico. I can honestly say that PV is like no other place I've been. If you are looking for a unique experience, off the beaten path, surrounded by nature in a resort focused on eco friendly way of life then don't wait to book here. You will not be disappointed.

This is an amazing place! It is a gorgeous and eco-friendly establishment that is a fabulous place to get away. The food is terrific ... authentic cuisine which is created using food grown on the property and is very healthy. The massage and yoga services are the best I have had - thank you Amy Zimmerman!

The staff is very friendly and keep the place very clean. I love having the open air feel and listening to the ocean all night. It is a very safe place on a beautiful remote beach. I highly recommend this place if you are a type of person who doesn't need TV or a bustling night life to keep you happy and entertained.

Room Tip: They are all great!

My friend and I spent 5 beautiful nights at this eco-friendly, boutique resort on the Pacific for a meditation and yoga retreat. The experience, in its entirety, was heavenly, from the accommodations (we stayed in a larger suite, with wood floors and bamboo walls and thatched roof, tiled shower and open air) ((think Gilligan's Island gone luxury)) to the meals (served family style, prepared from local and many hotel-grown ingredients in an open-air kitchen by talented chefs) to the yoga classes and massages in the upstairs 'room' over the main lodge. What bliss to be doing sun salutations to the jungle, the ocean and the sun! Everyone was lovely and helpful.

There was a trip scheduled to a cocoa and coffee farm in the Sierra Madres which included lunch, prepared and shared by the family. we are given the opportunity to grind the masa and help make the tortillas and lay them out on the wood-fired stove.

An added bonus was the open-air theater. I had brought a movie and the staff set up chairs in the sand and shoed the movie under the stars to the crashing ocean and even provided popcorn!

But the best part? The phosphorescent waves.

Room Tip: Go for the honeymoon suite of the deluxe suites. The cassita (sp?) were nice, but small and not as open as the suites. The honeymoon suite would be recommended for romance, since it is slightly removed from the rest.

Where to start? Our hearts are still at Playa Viva. The staff, guests and ambiance at playa is amazing. The field trips were awesome and very well guided by Johnny. The organic farm was beautiful and culturally meaningful. Surfing in the warm, clear water was such a treat and Chimi is extremely knowledgeable about the areas waves. The surrounding towns provide a glimpse into the life of locals and the true Mexican culture. Playa food was fresh, delicious and healthy. The staff is very accommodating and friendly. Morning yoga is a must and a post-flight massage is highly recommended. To those who feel comfortable in the sea, the ocean right in front of playa could provide a days worth of fun and activity. Can't wait to plan our next trip!

Unplugged, unwound, morning yoga with a world class view, afternoon massage.
Wonderful food. High thread count linens.
Nature lovers paradise. Happy staff, happy guests.
Note: Gorgeous ocean view, but dangerous undertow, not good for swimming. Not for those who mind being "one" with nature.
