I only stayed here for one night so maybe there's a flaw in the operation that I didn't have time to see, but my experience was 10 out of 10. If you are on the fence about whether to go here, allow me to give you a little shove in Playa Viva's direction.

I got to participate in the baby turtle release program and so I now consider myself an eco-hero.

The staff was super friendly and helpful, even volunteering to take me on a little impromptu surf mission.

Loved the original beverages on offer from the very friendly bartender.

Also, while you can choose to make this a solitary retreat-like experience, you can also really bond with your fellow guests during the locally sourced family style meals.

Beautiful location.

A beautiful location. Fantastic accommodation. Respectful & hard working staff. Delicious food. Great energy. A great place to get away from it all, relax, enjoy the scenery. Playa Viva is blessed with a beautiful geographical location, but the cabins and the staff add so much to make the trip a fantastic escape. AND its done the right way, respectful to all the stakeholders and the environment.

The sound and view of the ocean, the beauty of the surroundings, the wildlife (including the turtles, ah the turtles), the involvement of the local community, the wonderful staff, the tasty food, Johnny's basil margharitas.... the list could go one.
Suffice it to say, that after 2 visits in the last 12 months, this place is SPECIAL for all of our family (Mum, Dad, Kelly (14) and Jack (10)). It's also amazing to reflect on the people we've met whilst staying with David and his team. There's a unique sense of community here coupled with the possibility to relax and be at peace.

My husband and I loved Playa Viva! We attended a conference in Ixtapa for work and we wanted to find a place nearby to relax for the weekend. It far exceeded our expectations. The staff were friendly and helpful, and the food was absolutely delicious (able to accomodate for vegetarians was a big plus!). Very romantic - we loved hearing the waves every night while we slept. Very luxurious even though you are basically sleeping outside in thatched roof bungalows. The eco-friendly focus of how they run and what they stand for was inspiring. The owner gave a group of us a tour of the property and sustainable methods they use. We definitely want to go back with friends and family in the future! Thank you Playa Viva both for existing and for the wonderful time that we had.

The food is amazing, the staff are warm, the beds are comfy and the setting is gorgeous. But what really makes Playa Viva special is not what you would typically look for when researching where to stay. There is an aura of peace and serenity there, that is incredibly special. Playa Viva has been built with both the past and the future in mind. How did the land get to be the way it is? What are the memories of the community there? How did the land get to be so degraded? What is the history of the land? Before building anything at Playa Viva, they studied the past...now they regenerate it so that it can last into the future. This principle is a part of everything - from the locally harvested sustainable wood used, to the papyrus and water lilies that biodigest the black water. And you can feel this sense of belonging when you stay, which really makes it special. I would thoroughly recommend staying there, particularly if you want some time to relax and reflect.

My husband and I came to Playa Viva for our honeymoon, and we could not have picked a more perfect place for us to celebrate, relax, and enjoy. We wanted to go somewhere that wasn't your typical resort - we wanted to experience the real Mexico, but this being our honeymoon, we wanted luxury as well. Playa Viva was the perfect mix for us.
We stayed in the private casita, which was big and had more privacy than the other casitas. It was beautifully constructed, and had more than enough space for everything. The open-air aspect provided wonderful breezes, and made you feel like you were a part of the landscape. At night, fireflies gave us nighttime entertainment as we fell asleep to the sound of the ocean waves.
The food was incredible - every meal was so delicious, with so many options! We kept saying, "Oh, we're not that hungry...." and then proceed to eat a full plate of food and dessert! The staff was exceedingly friendly and helpful. They always checked in with us, but never overbearingly. Johnny not only was our bartender, but also gave my husband a fishing lesson.
And the turtles - oh the turtles! During our week, we released baby sea turtles 3 times, and one night we witnessed a mama turtle lay eggs on the beach. Truly once in a lifetime experiences.
We had the best honeymoon we could imagine - we can't wait to go back!

For those who are concerned about the current state of affairs in parts of Mexico I thought that I should mention that Playa Viva is very safe and extremely tranquil. This hidden jewel is truly a must see. Coupled with a wonderful staff, the private eco-friendly bungalow and beach setting are absolutely exquisite! My wife and I didn't know exactly what to expect when we initially purchased the trip for our wedding anniversary but were intriqued by all the positive reviews. Upon arrival we immediately realized we were in paradise! Lush greenery, wonderful fresh cuisine and captivating ocean views don't even begin to describe what's in store for you at Playa Viva. You owe it to yourself to experience all that is Playa Viva!
