Was on a working trip to Kuala Kangsar recently. After reading reviews on Tripadvisor, decided to have the chicken chop for our lunch.

The Yut Loy coffeeshop is situated right in the middle of Kuala Kangsar town. It serves chicken chop, fried noodles, steamed bread and others typical in a coffeeshop. It is an old building, non air-cond, with some faded photos and pictures hanging on the wall.

We ordered 4 chicken chops and some drinks for our lunch. Service was good, and our chicken chop was served in a short time. The drinks were thick and tasty. The chicken chop was served with some french fries, and the dark brownish gravy comes together with onions and some green peas. Taste wise, it's above average.

We ordered some pau to take-away, but the kaya pau was sold out. We only had the chicken, red bean paste and beef pau. The pau is soft and powdery. I found the chicken pau to be tasty. The read bean paste pau was not to my expectation. I did not taste the beef and kaya pau, so no comments.

Overall, the Yut Loy coffeeshop right in the middle of the Kuala Kangsar town serves an above average chicken chop. The pau is just ok, not that great, but still beats the one in Tanjung Malim hands down. The pau at Kota, Negeri Sembilan (just opposite the Petronas gas station) is much better, especially the pau with the sambal petai filling.

We ordered the 1 chicken chop, 4 steak, 1 meehoon hailam, 2 mee hailam, 1 wantai mee, and 3sets roti steam. And an average of 2 drinks each. The bill was rm139.00.

The best part was when we ordered the pau. The owner said they sold out. The gentleman on the next table heard our disappointment and sent us a few pau. Lovin the charm of this old school town.

Be patient and you will be rewards. THE BEST PAU in all of Malaysia. Full stop. And they only make 300 each day which is ready by about 2pm and finishes by 3pm if you are lucky - that is the palace hasn't tapau the entire batch. Anyway...other ol'skool Hainanese favaourites include Mee Kicap..Chicken Chop..Omelete on toast....half boiled egg on toast AND of course,,,the roti kahwin (kaya on one side and butter of the other). When I say say toast here..it means, in house made bread toasted on charcoal fire. Down them all with the kopi panas or kopi ping.

But like I said, you have to be patient for a table (get very busy especially during lunch and weekends). The speed of service is a laidback but like I said...be patient and yu will be rewarded.

The only food I missed terribly is Pau from Yut Loy - Kuala Kangsar.
The family is from KK and I have been eating their Pau since a young kid and having lived abroad since 1989, I must say that Yut Loys pau is still the Best. On my sister's visit 2 years ago, I managed to get her to bring in 30 pau's and yes they were still heavenly........No one makes Pau like Yut Loy and the one in Tg Malim is nowhere near in taste or quality.

Long Live Yut Loy

Yut Loy is a coffeeshop in the heart of Kuala Kangsar that serves Hainanese cuisine. The shop is old, there's no air conditioning or plushie armchairs or wi-fi, but there is a sign that says "No spitting allowed"...
As with the previous reviewer, I must agree that Yut Loy serves the best halal Pau (steamed buns) available in four flavours; red bean, kaya, chicken and beef. The bun is soft and light, the fillings tasty, made fresh daily and sold from 2pm onwards. If you're visiting during peak season, call ahead and book to avoid disappointment as they sell out fast.
Also recommended is the Hainanese Steak and Chicken Chop (it's like a schnitzel) served with fries and gravy. The gravy is so good you'll want to mop it up clean with the pau! More whimsical is the Egg Steak, in which the meat is substituted with a fried egg, a cheaper alternative for the students that regularly haunt the place.
Note: this isn't a steak joint where you pick a part, no T-bone, flank, etc. You'll get a tenderised piece of meat, that's that, what do you expect for RM15?
